We’re off to see the midwife…

Vision Forum Deal of the Day: save 40-90%!

(sung to the tune of The Wizard of Oz, as we skip down the steps toward the van)

Today is my second checkup – I started late due to a whooping cough epidemic and a trip to Hawaii. My midwife thought both excuses were perfectly acceptable.

Last time was the standard bloodwork; this time it’s the gestational diabetes screening, where you drink Orange Crud and have blood drawn an hour later (or something like that). Did I mention that blood draws make me woozy? My kids always hope to see me faint, but were disappointed last time when I hardly wobbled.

But I can’t help being excited. We’ll get to hear the heartbeat, measure and find out if my belly is as big as it feels, weigh and find out if my butt is as big as it feels. That’s one problem with wearing dresses all the time: you lose the daily feedback that pants give you. If you’re expanding, pants are far less forgiving than a modest dress.

Gotta go: 7 kids, 70 windy country miles, 10 AM appointment. TTFN!

    I hate that orange stuff. You have my sympathy.

    Good Luck! This must have been the year for Whopping Cough! I got it too and have heard of many others getting it too.

    Is the orange stuff required? I had always hoped to refuse it next time around – should the Lord choose to bless us.

  4. MamaK adds her thoughts::

    My midwife just has me eat a piece of toast with jam and drink a tall glass of orange juice (or a Coke, but I’d rather have the juice) on the way driving to her office.

    Hope you stayed strong, and the “measurements” are all healthy!

    Hope it all went well.

  6. Kim C. adds her thoughts::

    I have declined the test in the past (I knew I was hypoglycemic but just watched what I ate). But our 7th daughter was stillborn due to suspected gestational diabetes, so of course I test now with every pregnancy.

  7. Boule' Boule' adds her thoughts::

    I’m so sorry to hear that kim. I too will always test now. I have insulin resistance with PCOS. Hopefully the Lord will bless us again and I can “fret” a bit about these tests.

    Blessings,
    Marnie
