A big day

The Boy’s first bath. Not as much fun as you would think for someone who seemed so content to make his arrival in the water. He hardly cried at all when he was born, unlike his bath today. Oh, and he peed his towel.

The Boy has a name. Since Daddy hasn’t made a public announcement on his blog yet, I’ll defer. But keep an eye out.

The Boy got to meet his birthday cousin, my little nephew John Rian who was born on Grandma’s birthday last year. Taking pictures of little girls is easy: you show them the camera, and they stand and smile patiently until you’ve had your fill. Boys are very different, aren’t they? I can see that already. The only pictures we have of the front of John Rian are the ones where my sister is holding him in place. Otherwise, we just got to see him lay rubber on the carpet as he took off. All blurry backside shots. Those of you with boys already knew this, didn’t you? You’re laughing at me, aren’t you?

Now Hubby and the children - er, the girls - are off to swim at the lake after the traditional trip to WalMart (how can you go to town w/o stopping at WalMart?). The Boy and I stayed home for some R&R.

  1. First time I have seen John Rian. So he is one. Tell him Happy Birthday and his mama hello for me. Yes side views, backside views, tops of heads, etc are the norm for photos of boys. But is out house our boys are also quite photogenic. So you get really close photos of boys faces as they try to get as close to the camera as possible, as well as many strange and unusual faces and boys trying to show off to one another. With boys you get action shots more instead of sweet nice shots of girls smiling pretty. Even Katie will stop and smile for the camera. i can’t believe how easy it is to get a photo of her looking at the camera. YEs, I have to admit I was giggling but just a little. Have fun learning about boys it will be an exciting adventure! I too have trouble remembering to say the children, kids, etc when refering to all of them, it is so hard after years of saying the boys.

  2. My son does pretty well with looking when the anti-redeye light blinks. He doesn’t do as well when I actually go to take the picture! Needless to say I have quite a few pictures of the top of his head!

    Also, eagerly awaiting the name!

  3. Congratulations on your boy! God is good! I have been reading your blog for a while now and really enjoyed your birth story. Thanks for sharing.
As a mom of three boys, it will be really fun to hear you share about the differences!
You are so wise to rest now! I am the same as you, right after birth, I wanna do it all (it?s the best you?ve felt in a few months for sure!). But after a few weeks you start to feel it and you are sorry! So keep resting and healing and loving your boy. Oh and watch out for the pee!

  4. I’ve followed along with your birth story. How exciting birth and babies are!! Congratulations!
Your children are beautiful.. you will have a lot of helpers! I have 3 boys we just had a girl last Oct. and yes it is fun to see the differences. Watch out for the urine arch while changing. I’ve had a spray on my neck and down my shirt many o’times. ; )

  5. Congratulations on your boy. They are mutants, though. I just thought I’d warn you.

  6. Maybe you need to get these little contraptions. I don’t know… I managed to live without them but they sure are a hoot!!

  7. Oh, could you do me a favor? Don’t call him “the boy.” I don’t know why, but it’s so impersonal. Can we call him “Baby Boy?” Or something cute?
I’m off to your husband’s blog to see Doodlebug’s real name!

  8. Here I am again. I guess by the time this gets read, you’ll be referring to him by name. But if not…how about “Baby Brother”? (Or as my kids would have said when they were little, “Baby Brudder.”)
And the pictures on your husband’s blog were just precious! With all those big sisters, plus numerous other relatives…there may never be a moment someone isn’t hugging or kissing that kid. Isn’t that wonderful? What a way to start a life!

  9. I dunno… I kind of like The Boy. It makes him sound very special. The dictionary says it better than I:

    the-
a: Used before singular or plural nouns and noun phrases that denote particular, specified persons or things

b: Used before a noun, and generally stressed, to emphasize one of a group or type as the most outstanding or prominent

    c: Used to indicate uniqueness

I especially like the c: definition

  10. Thanks, Cindee - that’s it exactly.
Don’t worry, mom2fur. We’re having so much fun just *saying* the word “boy” that you can hardly imagine the love, affection, and drooly kisses that flow from every letter of the word.

  11. I answered this on the other post, but I get it now. I guess it was the “the” that got to me. So it’s either “THE boy” or “the BOY! the BOY!” But now I’m going to find out what THE BOY’s name is…

  12. I can understand Kim’s calling him “the boy” so much. We have 5 boys and had our first girl in Oct. She has been little girl, Katie Lady, little lady. It is just sooo much fun stating over and over again that she is a “GIRL”. When you begin to wonder if you will ever have anything different than what you have (in fact I gave up completely on ever having a girl so much so that I gave away all the girl things I had been holding on to and didn’t even pick out a girl name with this pregnancy) you are just so excited about it when it happens that you say it all the time.
