The midwife will be here soon, and I’m heading for the pool. Not a swimming pool, but the birthing pool my sister sent over. It’s a nice deep little inflatable pool, and it even has a cushioned bottom. My sister (not the one that’s expecting any day) used it last summer and said it was great!
Hubby and my dad think it’s a little crazy, but the pool is set up outside on the deck. Yes, we just might have an outdoor birth. Not because we’re hippies (we’re not) but because:
a) it’s plenty warm out there, and I tend to get cold esp. in labor
b) the deck will make cleanup a snap if I actually do give birth out there
c) our house is at the end of a long and bumpy drive, far out of sight of the road, and the deck is 10 feet off the ground. Nobody’s gonna see.
My dad’s afraid that after an outdoor birth we’ll want to name the baby Rainbow or Cloud or something. Not to worry; Hubby told his parents that he’s leaning toward Alphonse Leroy.

I love it! Who wouldn’t want to give birth outside with such a wonderful view!
I found you through Shannon and I had to come see for myself…outdoor and ONLINE delivery! I am duly impressed!
If you’re swimming, how can you blog all the details? Just kidding, looks lovely. Judy in Maine
Hubby offered to bring the laptop outside for me to blog from the poolside. Maybe.
Otherwise, I’ll be in and out, and he’ll probably update for me as well.
Praying for you. BTW- love the deck and the birthing pool idea! That looks so serene and beautiful.
Blessings,

Enjoy your swim! Today would be a great day to have a baby, I’m sure you would agree!
Why not give birth outside? I’m with you on the whole clean-up on aisle three deal. Just hose’er down when all is said and done! (the deck, that is)
What a guy! You definately got a keeper!
Hubby asked if you are going to import a dolphin to be present for your “hippy” birth.
Good luck today. I think the pool location is great.
also found you courtesy of shannon …wow, you are my hero…g/l and enjoy the beautiful day.
I am so jealous! That looks like the most wonderful place in the world to have a baby!
Wow what a beautiful view you have. Just concentrating on that must be so relaxing for you. That is magnificent. Will be checking on you throughout the day. God bless!
I used a birthing tub for a couple of my births and thoroughly enjoyed it. I had to set mine up in the garage…not nearly the beautiful view you have!!! Our house now has a big jacuzzi tub, which is nice but the hard sides are not as comfortable in labor as the soft birthing tub was. Praying for you today!
I agree with Lauren – what an incredible place to labor and deliver. My pool (looks identical to yours) was set up in my laundry room. Pretty practical, but not at all pretty.
Hopefully you’ll love the water. It was truly a pain-relieving experience for me, and a first waterbirth at baby #7. I’d do it again, that’s for sure!
Blessings to you!
~Karen…still praying in WA
You could call him “Alfie Lee”! (Hey, I think it’s kinda cute!)
Kim,
I’ll be praying for you today. You are truly blessed to live in such a beautiful place. I think being outside would be very calming…just be careful to not get sunburned.
I used the very same pool to birth our daughter in our basement family room four years ago! Best wishes on a beautiful homebirth; you are in my prayers.
I can just about hear your dad making comments about the birth pool and being outside. That just gave me such a laugh! I will definately be checking on you throughout the day.
Have a QUICK and uneventful birth in your pool! Prayers for a great delivery!
By the way, the birthing pool is a great idea, but I frown upon naming kids Dweezil, Ahmet, or Moon Unit. Just so you know.
Congratulations!
Ha! This is very interesting. Birth on the deck! I hope no planes fly overhead. Everybody on it who sees you would have a story to tell their grandkids one day. “That’s right, Billy, grandma was looking out of the airplane window and guess what she saw?” Hee! Happy swimming, Kim! Blessings, Another Kim
