WFMW: emergency diapers

Current giveaway: Grandpa Jake's Campfire Cooker

I hate, hate, HATE that feeling you get when you are out and realize that you forgot the diaper bag, so I always keep an emergency supply with the baby. What’s the one thing that goes everywhere the baby does? The carseat! I just lift the liner of the carseat and tuck 2 diapers in one side, and a small package of wipes in the other side. This works with the forward facing toddler seats, but it’s especially convenient with the infant seats because I use the carseat to carry my infants around.
It’s a small and simple thing, but it sure makes my life easier.
Now, on the rare occasions when I leave the house w/o my brain or diaper bag (OK, maybe not so rare), at least I have enough to get us through several hours. Enough diapers, that is. I don’t carry extra brains around with me – I’ve found that I can do without that in a pinch. After all, some people live that way.

That isn’t what I was expecting when I saw the title “Emergency Diapers”. I was thinking about the time I sent this little guy (I was babysitting, his mom and baby sister were in the hospital) home in a dishcloth held on by safety pins.

But your idea really is good!

  2. Mama Duck :

ROTFL a dishcloth! Ah, great idea, I always forget the diaper bag, bad mommy ;) . It gets SO hot in the car down here tho (and the car is black inside, not my choice) that I’d be afraid it would melt onto the car seat!

  3. Nikkie :

That is a great idea! I wouldn’t have thought to put spare diapers in there!

  4. Plain Jane Mom :

Hey, brilliant idea! I love tips that don’t involve buying anything and use things you already own. This one is great — thanks for sharing it.

  5. Julie Julie Bo Boolie :

WOW that rocks!!! I think I’m gonna stick an extra swimmer in the glove box too just in case.. TFS!

  6. Michelle- This One's For The Girls :

Excellent idea! Off to put some diapers in the carseat now!

  7. Mommy the Maid :

That is a great idea!! I used to put on in the car, but it would always get played with and becaome unusable. I never thought about putting it in the carseat. Thanks!

  8. ladyofvirtue :

Good idea–I keep mine under the front seat, but then if I go in anywhere, they are still in the car, not with the baby.

  9. Amber :

great idea!!!! I am going to have to try it! I was trying ot keep wipes in the car, but they get too dried out, so I think this will work better! :) EXCELLENT!

Ah!! I hate that feeling too when I forget! Great idea! Thanks for sharing.

  11. Martha A. :

I keep a stocked diaper bag in the car that never comes inside. It is small and that way it is one less thing to remember to grab. Otherwise, before that we had a small rubbermaid tub in the back called an emergency tub. It had a diaper, some underwear, maybe a t-shirt or 2, a high protein snack, and in the winter- a candle and maches. It can save you from freezing to death if you break down in the winter, we have had to use it before.

  12. Kim C. :

    Martha,
Our diaper bag lives in the van too, but the emergency diapers are my backup supply just in case the diaper bag is left at church, or we bring it in the house to restock and forget to take it right back out, etc.

  13. Hoobaby :

That’s a great tip, very usable!

  14. Honey :

That’s great! We keep an emergency bag in the trunk. It started when I had my firstborn because of spit up on my shirt. Hee hee. It contains diapers, wipes, a baby blanket, bottle of water, change of clothes, plus a shirt for daddy & me. It is a tiny duffle bag. I roll all this up small.
