With much screaming, squealing and shrieking, we just unearthed a webby chamber of horrors.
And:
We. Just. Caught. A. Tarantula.
By the way, that’s a quart jar. He covers the bottom, and barely fit through the mouth of the jar.
We’re still squealing and giggling like a bunch of girls. Wait, we are a bunch of girls.

Ewwww!!! I must say that you are all a bunch of BRAVE girls to capture a tarantula!
How scary! Where did you find him? I sure hope that is “webby chamber of horrors” was outside and far away from your house.
Are you keeping him as a “pet”?
Have a blessed day,
Dana
yikes! I hope there’s no more where that came from…

WOW, that thing is a monster! My kids were all impressed (well, son was impressed, girls were gasping!)
We discovered a black widow in the wagon while loading leaves and branches from the yard last week. *shivers* Creepy!
Oh. My. Word. How brave y’all are. Not so me. I can barely even look at the screen. So, are tarantulas poisonous? I’m being serious here- I really don’t know.
Let me just say that I will take my long, cold, snowy winters over that or even the possibility of that ANY DAY.
When we lived in South Texas there were lots of tarantulas…I saw one crossing the road once. Can’t say that I miss them! LOL!
I’m with Charmin. Seems like y’all have way more creepy-crawly visitors than I could handle! We have lots of spiders around our house, and they are icky, but if I ever saw a tarantula in my house I would probably have to move away!
Okay so glad I missed that in my visits..LOL…of course Braden would have thought it was cool.
So, I’m thankful I live here in wet Northwest WA where tarantulas don’t!
Glad you got a picture, what are you going to do with him?!
We or should I say my kids have one as a pet.
Thats one of the perks of raising 5 boys.
Ewwww…..
I am sooo much a girl, I would let he/her HAVE the house. I would have had a heart attack.
Next time (and let’s hope there will NOT be a next time) give a girl a little WARNING, will ya? I won’t sleep for a few nights now and will need this baby to come out now so I can start the anti-anxiety pills and the sleeping pills that could be necessary. Oh, the horror of it all!
From the info I can unearth, it seems that Texas tarantulas are not poisonous (at least no more than a typical bee sting). They are (ahem) gentle and easily tamed and make (gasp) good pets if you can find a female, which ours appears to be.
I should mention that hubby and I had a pet tarantula (acquired as the aftermath of a practical joke) which I *did* hold and treat as a pet. She looked strikingly similar to the one on my table now, and did give me the willies a bit, but I didn’t feel the need to SCREAM EVERY TIME IT MOVES.
In her defense, tarantulas eat scorpions. She does seem rather calm, and her burrow was far up the hill away from our house.
We’ll keep her for a bit and see if she will eat, then see what hubby says.
ACK!!!!!!!!
OH MY LAND……..I THINK I WOULD JUST DIE!
THIS HORRIFIES ME BEYOUND BELIEF! PLEASE DO NOT TELL ME IT WAS IN YOUR HOUSE. I WOULD ALMOST DIE, SERIOUSLY, ARE YOU KEEPING IT!!! I DONT MIND SNAKES BUT THIS BABY HAS TO GO!!!!! I have the creepies as i sit here like its crawlin on me! are they all over texas? maybe i do just LOVE MIDWESTERN WINTERS AND 6 MONTHS OF NOT ALOT OF SUNSHINE, JUST FINE THANK YOU…
I am so not moving to TX now! I had no idea those were there.
OH YUCK!! I had no idea that these were in the US!! ICK ICK ICK… One note, I found a black widow looking for a place to nest in our home the other day!! ICK ICK ICK and YIKES!
UHG, even looking at the picture turns my stomach!
Mrs. Meg Logan
AAAAAAACCCCCCKKKKKK! (said in a high pitched shrill screaming way!)
wow, that’s a bit creepy. it’s just so big.
I just have to say, that is NEAT-O! I had a couple of tarantulas as pets as a child, and would recommend crickets as a easy food source for her. Any varied insect will do…grasshoppers, crickets, mealworms, etc. Also, put a tiny sponge in a water bowl for her to drink from.
If you keep her long enough, she’ll even shed her skin and leave you with a cool exo-skeleton! Check out http://www.whatsthatbug.com for more info on tarantulas.
I just can’t be squeamish about such a lovely critter! But, I must say, a dog licking me in the face would turn my stomach -quick!
Guess I’m one wierd woman!
Momma-in Central CA whose Honey squished at least eight black widows on Saturday!
EWW! But I bet they are thrilled!
You sure it’s a tarantula?
I once found a wolf spider in my room – just as big, but slightly different coloring. And JUST as freaky! ACK!
