Praise God and Thank WalMart

update:
The complete text of WalMart's statement from the link given below:

Respect for the individual is one of the core values that have made us into the company we are today. We take pride in the fact that we treat every
customer, every supplier and every member of our individual communities fairly
and equally. We are working hard to make our corporate contributions reflect the
values of our customers, communities, and associates. As Sam Walton said,
?Each Wal-Mart store should reflect the values of its customers and support the
vision they hold for their community. Wal-Mart will not make corporate
contributions to support or oppose highly controversial issues unless they
directly relate to our ability to serve our customers.Wal-Mart does not have a
position on same sex marriage and we do not give preference to gay or lesbian
suppliers. Wal-Mart does have a strong commitment to diversity among
our associates and against discrimination everywhere.

Remember the uproar against WalMart's Black Friday donation to a homosexual group?
Were you among over 400,000 people who signed the petition pledging not to shop at WalMart on Black Friday weekend?
WalMart has changed its tune.
WalMart has issued a statement announcing that it "will no longer make corporate contributions to support or oppose controversial issues unless they directly relate to their ability to serve their customers."
The site seems to be down this morning, but I was able to click over last night to read the statement.
In the meantime, you might like to read a brief article on the subject from The Eagle.
The AFA is encouraging Christians to send an email thanking WalMart. Your email will be sent to WalMart president Lee Scott.

Of course, we should thank God first for this wonderful news!

Psalm 150

1 Praise ye the LORD. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power.

2 Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness.

3 Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp.

4 Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs.

5 Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals.

6 Let every thing that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD.

  2. This is awesome news! the power of prayer and standing behind what we believe really works! this is proof… I suspect though we will have to continue praying much and also showing our strength by continuing to sign these petitions!

  3. How do you reconcile this news with Wal-mart deciding to sell emergency contraception?

  4. Kim,

I, too, have been boycotting Wal-Mart and was glad to see this change. However, my husband thinks it is pretty convienent that they would make this statement right before the biggest shopping day of the year. They are worried about losing sales the day after Thanksgiving, I’m afraid. I pray that they stay true to their word. Time will tell. I’m not jumping in quite yet.

  5. Am I just dense, or does this seem to not be a true change in the course of action they were originally planning? It just seems like a vague statement on their part that doesn’t really state that they’re going to withhold their contribution. Seems like if they’d changed their mind, it would’ve been stated more succinctly. Could it be that we’re just reading what we want to read?

  6. My first thought was scepticism, but WalMart is not a Christian brother, or even a Christian corporation.
WalMart is a formerly conservative company that made an abrupt shift to the political left to court a particular demographic group – a group that the Bible condemns in no uncertain terms.
We praise God that financial pressures have persuaded WalMart to reverse that course for the time being.
In my opinion, the statement may have been vague but the motivation was unmistakeable.

  7. Wow, guess I need to click over and send Wal mart an email :) .

  8. I suppose a letter thanking their surprise quick change of policy would be good, however I’m waiting for the other shoe to drop. If this change was just for money and their true intent is just veiled for now, I still may not shop there until after January at least, or find out I don’t need them at all.
