Who likes Shakespeare?

We are getting ready to do a play of selected scenes from William Shakespeare’s “Much ado about nothing”. One scene which is definitely going to be included is a battle of wits between Beatrice (quoted in the voice of Emma Thompson) and Benedick (quoted in the voice of Kenneth Branaugh):

——————————————————————————————–
Bene: ….If Signor Leonato be her father, she would not have his head on her shoulders for all Messina, as like him as she is.
Beat: I wonder that you will still be talking Signor Benedick: Nobody marks you.
Bene: What! My dear lady Disdain, Are you yet living?
Beat: I it possible disdain should die while she has such meet food to feed it as Signor Benedick? Courtesy itself must convert to disdain if you come in her presence.
Bene: Then is courtesy a turncoat. But it is certain I am loved of all ladies, only you excepted; and I would I could find in my heart that I had not a hard heart; for truly, I love none.
Beat: A dear happiness to women: else they had been troubled with a pernicious suitor. I thank God and my cold blood, I am of your humor for that : I had rather hear my dog bark at a crow than a man swear he loves me.
Bene: God keep your ladyship still in that mind; so some gentleman or other shall ‘scape a predestinate scratched face.
Beat: Scratching could not make it worse, an ‘twere such a face as yours were.
Bene: Well, you are a rare parrot-teacher.
Beat: A bird of my tongue is better than a beast of yours.
Bene: I would my hose had the speed of your tongue, and so good a continuer. But keep your way, I have done.
Beat: you always end with a jade’s trick : I know you of old.

Isn’t it great? Kaitlyn and I always quote it.

Called: Birthdays
Monday’s child is fair of face,
Tuesday’s child is full of grace,
Wednsday’s child is full of woe,
Thursday’s child has far to go,
Friday’s child is loving and giving,
Saturday’s child works hard for its
living,
And the child that’s born on Sabbath
day
Is fair and wise and good and gay.

This is the end of
Emma And The Magical Forest

That night she got up and went looking for the unicorns but she could not find them. However, one day she went looking for them and she found the foal sleeping in a cave! Quietly she walked in the cave and sat down next to the foal to wait for either the foal to wake up or for the mom to come. A few minutes later, the foal woke up and just stared at her. She went home that day and thought” I am glad I did not move”.

When 8yo Megan stood next to me this morning, the baby leaned toward me from her arms, landing with his mouth planted squarely on my – well, let’s just say he made it clear that he was looking for lunch.
Megan laughed out loud. “Look, Mom! He’s so excited, it’s like he’s eating candy with the wrapper on!”

For my 10 y/o birthday, some friends of mine gave me a Quaker Oats cookbook.
This is my favorite recipe it is called;

Lemmon Poppy Seed Cake:

2 ¼ cups of flour
1 ½ cups of Quaker oats
3 Tbs poppy seeds
1 Tbs baking powder
½ tsp baking soda
½ salt (optional)
1 cup sugar
¾ cups butter (1 ½ sticks)
1 Tbs grated lemon peel
3 eggs
1 ½ cups milk
Glaze
1 Cup powdered sugar
½ tsp grated lemon peel
4 to 5 tsp fresh lemon juice
Preparation:
1. Heat oven to 350. Grease 12 bundt pan r 10” tube pan.
2. Combine flour, oats, poppy seeds, baking powder, baking soda, and salt; set aside.
3. In large bowl, beat sugar and butter until creamy. Beat in lemon peel. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each. Beat in dry ingredients and milk alternately in three additions, beginning and ending with dry ingredients. Pour into a pan.
4. Bake 35 to 45 minutes * or until wooden pick inserted comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes; remove from pan. Cool completely on wire rack.
5. Combine powdered sugar, lemon peel and enough lemon juice for desired consistency; mix until smooth. Drizzle over cake. Store tightly covered at room temperature.

Yield: 16 servings

*If using a heavy, cast aluminum bunt pan, baking time may need to be increased.
