Ballantyne Book giveaway!
Vision Forum has a new series: Ballantyne Christian Adventure Library. There are 10 titles for sale now at a great price for high quality hardbacks. Inside sources say these books are everything you would expect from Vision Forum. They are well written, fast paced, with a rich vocabulary and exciting storylines. The characters are strong, courageous, virtuous, principled - except for the bad guys, of course.
And the Christian worldview is inextricably woven into the book, from cover to cover. I am a firm believer that one’s worldview shines through in all that one does, and Mr. Ballantyne was a Scottish covenanter of the 1800’s. You will know that when you read his books.
From the VF website:
Ballantyne was not just another writer of the Victorian age who penned exciting historic fiction. His strong and uncompromising Christian presuppositions undergird all his stories. He encouraged his readers to put their trust in God for this life and the next, and taught in his stories that the one safeguard against evil is the redemptive love of God.
…But for Ballantyne, Stevenson might never have made his travels through the Pacific where, notably, he wrote his masterpiece Treasure Island. Reading Ballantyne?s The Coral Island at age fifteen sparked in Stevenson both his life-long love for the South Seas, and a fierce devotion to his fellow Scot. Stevenson even included Ballantyne in the introduction to his book Treasure Island, where he dubbed this proponent of Gospel Christianity and boyhood adventure, ?Ballantyne the Brave.? The title stuck.
So here’s the best part. I get to give away one title each week for the next 10 weeks!
This week’s title is The Coral Island.
Probably the most popular and thrilling story by R.M. Ballantyne, The Coral Island is a breathtaking account of narrow escapes, harrowing trials while stranded in the south Pacific, the very real need of the cannibalistic, pagan savages for the light of the Gospel, and the courage of three young adventurers.
To enter the drawing for this title, just leave a comment on this post.
You know what? I was wrong. The weekly drawing isn’t the best part. It gets better: blog about Ballantyne Books (be sure to link back to Vision Forum) and mention this giveaway, and you will be entered in a drawing for a full set of all 10 books! The winner of that drawing will be announced after all 10 individual titles have been given away. Just include the following phrase so I can find your post:

Oh lord, it’s been so long since I read Ballantyne. I must have all of 10 years old when I first read Coral Island and was swept away into a world of adventure and danger. Strangely, I’ve forgotten the details of the story but I still remember the intense feeling of excitement I had while reading this book. I’d love nothing more than to have a copy of this book and share the adventure anew with my child. Thanks for this awesome giveaway. I’ve blogged about as it as well. Check it out.

Thanks, hope I’m not to late. I would love to win some books. Especially from Vision Forum.
I have visited your blog many times but haven’t left a comment before ;0) and have been meaning to say that you have beautiful children. I have 5 boys and 1 girl and wonder how many more boys we would have had if we continued to have more babies =)
When I was young I always wanted a dozen kids and had it all planned out that I would have 8 girls and 4 boys. Goofy me!!! But that was my 10yr old brain thinking.
Blessings,
Linda<><

Well I guess I will post a comment to make an effort to try to win one of these books…but if I win I would like it to go to the Tully Children. As my family knows, I believe that education in whatever form it takes is wonderful, and I wholeheartedly believe that reading and understanding what you read is the best hobby for training young minds in undertsanding all the things they must learn, even math and science. Reading certainly encourages imagination and the ability to think outside the box to provide solutions. My whole family knows that when I am reading, if they call my name, i probably won’t acknowledge them as I am so absorbed in the stroies I am reading. (OK so I admit most of what I read nowadays, besides case law and statutes, is sci-fi such as the Dune series by Frank Herbert [an intellectual sci-fi read], The Lord of the Rings/Symarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien, the Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis [which doesn't fit into the sci-fi genre per se, but you'll find it often on the sci-fi/fantasy shelves of the bookstores] and anything by Isaac Asimov), also spend a great deal of time now reading about C++ Computer Programming [just a bit of a hobbyist in this]). Anyway, a toast (of apple juice of course) to you for doing this wonderful thing. In the olden times books were a sign of wealth. I think that holds true today, the ability to enjoy or comprehend a story, article or learn a life lesson without enduring the hardship just by reading a book is very valuable indeed. (-the Tully Children’s Auntie Karen) I am going to try to blog this link about the contest at my blogspot tullylaw.blogspot.com
What an awesome opportunity! I have posted about the contest on my blog! THANKS!
