Chocolate and coffee confessions
Deep breath.
I quit. Aside from an occasional weak “latte” (1/4 cup of coffee with 3/4 cup of milk, nice and hot) I have almost entirely given up coffee due to atrial flutter or something very much like it. I was very slow to blame the caffeine, but after less than a week without coffee I was 99% better so I’m struggling to stay away from the stuff.
All I can say is that I’m glad coffee doesn’t taste as good as the fresh ground beans smell. I’d never be able to give it up.
I’ll also mention that I now get an extra little thrill out of kissing hubby in the morning, with his coffee breath. mmmm. He tastes and smells better than ever.
But chocolate…no worries. With all that coffee out of my diet, I have plenty of room for the tiny bit of caffeine provided by good dark chocolate. And with my blood pressure down to 90/50, I need that little boost. 
“You’re just nice and relaxed,” said the dental hygienist after she took my blood pressure. “ummm…yeah,” thought I. “must….have….caffeine…”
Hubby has recently treated me to several bars of Excellence 85% Dark Chocolate by Lindt. It has just enough sweetness and plenty of dark rich chocolatiness. (What? You think that’s not a word? It is now. I just added it to the spell checker.)
It’s even low carb: a teeny tiny 12 carbs in the entire bar, but just one of the 10 big squares has enough chocolate to satisfy a craving.

Giving up coffee? I want to, but can’t quite accomplish it, I too, love the stuff. Maybe if I could transfer to chocolate I could survive. Love the part about your morning kiss being even better now!
I dunno…I think I could give up chocolate easier than coffee. So, I stand in awe that you’ve done it.
I guess it’s a good thing I can do both if I want…together.

Congratulations on giving up coffee! That’s a tough one. I’ll be looking forward to your post on low carb recipes since I’m a diabetic who relies entirely on diet to control my blood sugar!

Chocolate though would be a great way to get through this valley
Hey, I just finished up a bar of that exact chocolate today. Definately, it’s easier for me to justify eating than a bag full of Hershey’s kisses. If I start on those, I cannot stop. The dark chocoalte takes me a little longer and I can tell hubby that “it’s good for me!”. :p
I have been meaning to post for days now and am finally getting a chance. I am not a coffee drinker (except for an occasional more cream and sugar then coffee drink) but am a chocolate lover. The dark chocolate is definitely my favorite and I have found a little piece of good dark chocolate (like the 70 or 85%) is better then a whole bag full of M&M’s. I have been not eating chocolate (for personal reasons) for 1 1/2 years now. It has been one of the hardest things I have done! Try having an evening treat that really satisfies that doesn’t have chocolate in it. Then there is ice cream, all the good flavors have chocolate (have you ever tried double fudge brownie?). Enjoy that chocolate, you’ve got a good thing going there!
