What does a family with 14 children look like?

Until Mother’s Day, our family had never had a photo of all 14 of us together. With a sister married and settled in Tennessee and 2 brothers working offshore on different 2 or 3 week shifts, we were beginning to doubt that it would ever happen.
It happened.
Here it is, preserved for posterity.

  1. Oh MY STARS!! I absolutely LOVE this picture, You are all so beautiful. All the girls are so beautiful. I know your mom is so proud, and this picture is definately a treasure. I loved this.
Man how many still live at home? They all look so young.

  2. Kim, What a great picture. It’s wonderful to have one of them all together. Just missing your dad. Your mom still just blends in like one of the kids.

  3. Now I see where “Little Red” gets her beautiful hair!

  4. I love that picture! Doesn’t it make everybody want to have more than 2 children?

  5. Kim~
That is a great picture! I see where your little one gets her red hair!

  6. Paulette,
The first 6 of us are married; #7 is a 21yo boy (er, man) who lives on his own; #8 is engaged to be married in the fall. My parents are moving out of state this week, and #9 and #10 will be staying behind with family, mainly to help our brother and his wife w/their disabled child and 2 toddlers.
That leaves Mom and Dad with just 4, count ‘em, *4* children in their house when they move. I wonder if their new friends and neighbors will believe that they have 10 more children and 20 grandchildren?
    Yeah, right.

  7. Great picture, seems as though the girls outnumbering the boys runs in the family.

  8. What a special picture :)!!!

  9. More girls than boys in that picture…hmm…reminds me of this one family I’ve read about. LoL!

  10. I assume that is you in the front row. That is not your Mom in the middle is it?

  11. Thanks Kim! Fasinating! I love large families. I have a friend alittle younger than me and they are working on number 12. This picture makes me smile!
Your mom wont know what to do with just 4 kid’s at home!! Wow!

  12. Marci,
Yes, I’m in the front row and Mom is right next to me. See what childbearing does to you?
I outweigh her by at least 10 lbs, even though she’s an inch taller than I am.
I guess I just need to have a few more kids…

  13. my 1st cousin has 15 (14 living) Here blog is http://www.14gems.blogspot.com be sure to tell her Homemakerang sent you! xoxxo your mother is gorgeous

  14. oh yes, looks like you followed her with mostly girls too. interesting… maybe your next few will be boys?

  15. Kim,
All I can say is WOW. What a beautiful picture.

  16. I love the red hair. We have red hair in our family as well. We can’t go anywhere without comments about the kids’ hair.

  17. Wow - that is the neatest picture I have seen in quite some time!! How many of your siblings were born after you married? Does it feel strange to have children when your Mom is having children also? (I ask because our daughters may start having children when we are still. I just wanted your opinion about it.) Also, how far from you are your parents moving?

    Blessings,
    Angela

  18. Oh, I think you should post a new picture of all 8 of your children too. Kids have a way of changing so fast!! :) Also, my daughter, Megan (10), said “Kim’s Mom is in the picture? Where?” :)

    Angela

  19. Wow, Kim, that is a special and wonderful picture. What wonderful blessings the Lord has bestowed on your family!

  20. What a great picture! I’m sure it is something very special to all of you.

    Love your blog!

  21. I’ve been reading your blog for a while, but somehow missed that you’re one of 14. How many nieces and nephews do you have (so far!) And, how old is the youngest? Your mom must have been very young when she married, she looks so young now!

  22. Donna,
I’m the oldest (34yo) and our youngest brother is 9.
I have 9 nieces and nephews (one was just born Saturday!), with another due in July.
For those who are keeping track, I was wrong; I thought Mom and Dad had 18 grandchildren w/2 more due soon, but 18 was already counting the babes in utero.

  23. Dear Kim,

Your mom is my hero–I hope that I can look that vibrant in another 10 years! You are all gorgeous!

    Sherry
