Did you see it?!

Did you see what I made? Just below my header…cool or what?!
I am amazed at both how much the English language has changed over the centuries, and at finding that we can still read it. I think it also gives insight into the changing connotations and denotations of words.
So far I have inserted 30 different quotes, randomly rotating. Each time you refresh the page you should see something new.
I’ll be making one for the original Geneva version as well, with all the antiquated spellings intact.

Questions:

  1. Who wants the free code? It’s just a few lines of script, and it doesn’t have to go at the top of your blog - it can go in your sidebar, or nearly anywhere in your template. I know it works for Blogger and for New Blogger. See it at Frugal Blogs for an example in a New Blogger template. Email or keep an eye on our Geneva Bible Pages if you want the code for your blog.
  2. Do you have a favorite passage you’d like to me to add? Please keep in mind it needs to be short (preferably 2 verses or less), and the Wycliffe translation is only available in the New Testament.
  3. Should I do 2 separate codes for the Geneva Bible: one with the original spellings and one for the updated version?

Can you tell I’m really really excited about this? It’s something I’ve tinkered with off and on for several months and it’s finally working.
Yeah!

  1. Hey, that is cool and sorry, you did say if one is interested in the to send an e-mail… what is your e-mail? (It USED to be on the page somewhere… am I suffering premature, selective blindness?)

How funky is the Geneva text? Is it understandable?

    Andrea

  2. Andrea,
I took my email off the main page but you can still get it on my blogger profile. It’s call her blest at g mail dot com (no spaces, of course).
The Geneva text reads very much like the King James; it’s only the spelling that really belies its age.
I hope to have that one ready tomorrow, with a total of 60 verses.
Here’s a sample to give you a taste of the language and spelling:
“He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good, and what the Lord requireth of thee: surely to doe iustly, and to loue mercie, and to humble thy selfe, to walke with thy God.” Mic 6:8

  3. so cool! sending you an email!
