some highlights from the August archives

Update: Maybe I should drink coffee before I moderate comments in the morning. While trying to delete a reader’s duplicate comment, I accidentally deleted several others as well. I reposted the ones that I found, but if you commented and yours didn’t appear, my apologies.

Poll: Who thinks I should just get re-hooked on caffeine?

I just had a little stroll down memory lane, ambling through my archives, and thought I’d share what I found in August last year.

  1. go for the caffeine part. i will join you after babe is born… :)oh yes, and nursing is done, but that will be quite a while for caffeine, now that i think about it… i do have a cup in the AM to wake up though! I am not a morning fan!

  2. Go for the caffeine- then I do not have to feel so guilty b/c I drink it. This is my first pregnancy where I have done that- poor girl! But it is helping me get through that afternoon hour so I can finish homeschooling, cooking & cleaning….

  3. I just recently found your blog (as you know from my email). I particularly enjoyed your post about extra-curricular activities. I only have 2 children (praying for more), and I have learned (the hard way) that we don’t need alot of outside activity. I get alot of criticism from people, but after over 10 years of living life in the fast track, I have found great joy and peace in simply being home. My children love being home as well. And you know what—-we are NOT hermits. BEcause we are home more, and not so stressed from constant activity, we are able to invite families for dinner a couple times a month (we never did that when we were always gone!) We are able to minister to our neighbors and bake cookies and muffins for our postal carrier, etc. In short, we have broken out of the bondage of constant activity that our society thinks is so normal. And we love our less-stressed life!

  4. That was fun to browse your archivese. I loved the shopping with children one. It’s so true that children are happier when busy. I have four little boys and if they are helping unload groceries onto the conveyor belt, it helps keep their eyes from seeing things on the checkstand magazines that I would never want them to see. They are learning to keep their eyes busy rather than stare at something inappropriate. My boys laugh at your picture because they wonder if we would ever get a GIRL!

Oh, and if you let your children sleep through the night in their church clothes - I suppose it goes without saying to not let the bedwetters do it. hee hee

Caffeine was made by God. :)

  5. Don’t do it! I waited until I was done nursing my little man and thought, “Ah, finally I can have caffeine again!” And then, I was pregnant a month later and had to kick it all over again!

I’m saving this post in my favorites so I can get to all those great parenting tips easily. Thanks for posting this!

  6. Brooke,
I’ve heard my hubby say that caffeine is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy. :)

    Wendy,
I usually drink moderate amounts of caffeine throughout pregnancy and nursing; if I keep my intake steady and avoid it after noon, my babies sleep just fine at night.
The trouble comes when I give in to the temptation to drink it late in the day.
Lately, though, I’ve given it up because of side effects. It was causing heart palpitations around the clock. Not fun!

  7. New commenter here…
That spare diaper idea was pure genius! I’m telling all my friends!
    Oh, yes, and I’m pro-caffeine!
