I was so excited to see another homeschooler supporting Ron Paul! The kids and I are trying to get involved with his campaign here in the Austin area. We think he’s great. As a family that values our freedoms(especially to homeschool) we were disappointed that HSLDA came out in support of Huckabee and not Ron Paul.
I agree with Ron Paul on everything EXCEPT his stance in Iraq.
Dana
We are so happy to see you supporting Ron Paul. We have a Ron Paul bumber stickers on our vans (right beside our 10 little fishes), and are a part of Ron Pauls grass roots support organization here in Knoxville. We are praying for a miracle.
It is wonderful to be able to support a candidate who is principled. We are so very tired of Christians voting for the lesser of two evils. They will even tell you that is what they are doing, instead of voting for someone that they would really like to see in the White House.
While I like Ron Paul’s stance on Homeschooling, for obvious reasons. I like Tom Tancredo better. A big part of that is because I support the war on Terror. I was on an airplane during the events of 9/11. I think the nation has forgotten who started this. People think it started with 9/11, it didn’t. there the WTC ‘93, the Khobar Towers, the USS Cole, Embassy bombings.. the list goes on. For years we, as a nation, did nothing. That’s why they got daring enough to pull off what they did. On 9/11, they turned downtown Manhattan into a battleground. By taking the fight to the middle east, we picked the battleground. Staying there has kept another 9/11 from happening here.
I’m a military wife also, so it’s my husband, my friends’ husbands, and my friends who are going over there to defend our country, and to defend Ron Paul’s right to say what he wants to say about the war on terror.
But… when it comes down to it. I don’t think Ron Paul or Tom Tancredo have a chance. They are too far down on the “second tier”. I think it our nominee will wind up being Rudy Giuliani. I would love to see Tancredo on the ticket as a vice-pres to Rudy, because I think Tancredo could balance out Rudy’s conservative shortcomings.
RON PAUL FOR PRESIDENT!!!
There are a few of us New Yorkers who still remain true to the Constitution! Go Dr. No!
We first heard of him when he was interviewed for the movie “America: Freedom to Fascism.”
Does he have a written stance or proclamation that he is a born-again believer anywhere? I didn’t find that on the site anywhere, but I may have overlooked it.
I agree with him on several things, but his position on national defense scares the bejeebers out of me.
He’s baptist
http://pewforum.org/religion08/profile.php?CandidateID=15
Oh, and he’s my fav. for 08!
Yep, we’ve backed him for awhile. There’s just something so refreshing about a candidate who’s for small government. Like you, we don’t back every position of his completely, but it’s exciting to see him doing so well in the polls!
I will not vote for him because of his stance on Iraq. Though we may not all agree with the reasons for going, we can not abandon the promises we have made to the Iraq people. My husband has been there. He may go again. Actually, we can almost assuredly say he will go again. We have a moral obligation to fulfill those promises whether people like it or not.
God bless,
Sallie
I don’t understand what is wrong with his position on national defense or specifically Iraq. Here is what his site says:
“The war in Iraq was sold to us with false information. The area is more dangerous now than when we entered it. We destroyed a regime hated by our direct enemies, the jihadists, and created thousands of new recruits for them. This war has cost more than 3,000 American lives, thousands of seriously wounded, and hundreds of billions of dollars. We must have new leadership in the White House to ensure this never happens again.
Both Jefferson and Washington warned us about entangling ourselves in the affairs of other nations. Today, we have troops in 130 countries. We are spread so thin that we have too few troops defending America. And now, there are new calls for a draft of our young men and women.
We can continue to fund and fight no-win police actions around the globe, or we can refocus on securing America and bring the troops home. No war should ever be fought without a declaration of war voted upon by the Congress, as required by the Constitution.
Under no circumstances should the U.S. again go to war as the result of a resolution that comes from an unelected, foreign body, such as the United Nations.
Too often we give foreign aid and intervene on behalf of governments that are despised. Then, we become despised. Too often we have supported those who turn on us, like the Kosovars who aid Islamic terrorists, or the Afghan jihads themselves, and their friend Osama bin Laden. We armed and trained them, and now we?re paying the price.
At the same time, we must not isolate ourselves. The generosity of the American people has been felt around the globe. Many have thanked God for it, in many languages. Let us have a strong America, conducting open trade, travel, communication, and diplomacy with other nations. “
Everything in there seems correct. We were initially deceived into going into a poorly planned war in which we had no exit strategy. Our enemies are simply trying to keep us fighting and bankrupt us.
I know 4 people deployed now (2 army, 1 navy, 1 Marine). I don’t think they should be there and at least one of them feels the same way. There are many veterans against the war too. It doesn’t not imply that you are weak on defense. It means if we are going to start a war, do it for the right reasons, plan it better, and don’t mislead your people.
not diggin his stance on Iraq…
He is against the Defense of Marriage amendment. This throws up some red flags for us. His reasoning was that the regulation of marriage is a state issue. Our problem with this view is that states are required to honor legal marriages administered by other states. This would practically legalize same sex marriage in the whole country.
Also, his isolationist view of foreign policy is a bit disturbing as well.
Just our opinion, please no stones!
While I found his stance on homeschooling refreshing I was not impressed with his Iraq stance or a few other things, our home won’t be supporting him this year.
As he has said, Dr. Paul’s “stance” on Iraq is such that the U.S. Constitution does not allow. The US declared “war” unconstitutionally, and this “war on terror” is completely unconstitutional. It is actually all part of the new globalism– that New World Order the Bushes talk about a lot.
I recommend that you all check out the Constitution and review Dr. Paul’s reasons for being against this policy before reacting against him just because you don’t “like” something. This stuff is very, very serious.
Ron Paul is our second choice; we like Mike Huckabee, though! He supports homeschooling; as the former governor of Arkansas, he was the first to appoint a homeschooling parent to the state board of education. He is a born-again Christian; we’ve been so refreshed and encouraged by his unshakeable faith.
specifically to L — My husband is a Marine and has been there. He has seen how the Iraqi people feel and he knows they appreciate us. It is the media who distracts it in hopes that American’s are too dumb to know any better. Whether we went there for right reasons is a mute point. We are there and so we must help. There are no plans for a draft either.. just another ploy by dems to scare us…There are plenty of men who have willingly signed up since 9/11 without coersion for the simple patriotic desire to defend their country and to help those who can’t help themselves.
Mike Huckabee is also our families choice. My husband read a wonderful article with him in the New Man magazine.
Indeed I HAD noticed your ad, and I wanted one too
We love Ron Paul because of his constitutional stance!
We too, support Ron Paul. As far as I can tell, Ron Paul has no “positions”. He is a constitutionalist. He does not support the federal government taking any authority that it is not granted by the constitution. Every time I have heard someone say that they don’t support Pauls position on a certain issue, the fact is that they do not understand the constitutional position on the issue. Our country is in a heap o’ trouble because we have allowed our leaders to ignore the law of the land. We need a president who is willing to uphold the constitution at every turn.
Sallie- I would say that some Iraqis support us, but not enough. That, however, doesn’t mean the war was right to begin with. I don’t think it is a mute point at all. We don’t want a president that would repeat mistakes.
Now that we have started this war, of course with must do the right thing and finish what we started. That is beside Ron Paul’s point.
Just a word to the wise:
Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton said they were born-again Christians. So has Hillary.
I have heard Mike Huckabee and he does sound good on many things. But I won’t vote for him because he says he is a born-again Christian. Wow, waaay too many folks have been duped by that!
A president is supposed to uphold, defend, and protect the U.S. Constitution. Ron Paul has proven througout the decades that he has done this as senator, and he wil continue to do so as president.
please, someone explain to me ‘finish what we started.’
we started bombing and displacing
families by the millions, is that
what you mean by ‘finishing what
we started?’ must we continue
on the present path of destruction
until every last Iraqi is dead or displaced by the villanous we arm
and empower (saddam, police death squads, saudi suicide bombers, and this is Iraq alone)?
how many more innocent Iraqi children’s blood are you willing
to wear on your hands? palestinian children? iranian children?
when will enough finally be enough?
when will ‘the job’ be finished?
when we’ve finally exterminated them all i suppose.

Actually, the nation chooses to ignore who started this. We were screwing up the middle east LONG before any of those attacks. In 1953, we helped overthrow Iran’s democratically elected leader and installed the Shah, a brutal tyrant who killed thousands of his own people and allowed US corporations to take 60% of Iran’s oil profits. The Iranians overthrew the Shah (our puppet leader, essentially) and in retaliation took American hostages.
For years, the U.S. denied its involvement in the 1953 coup, but in March 2000, then Secretary of State Madeline Albright admitted, ?In 1953 the United States played a significant role in orchestrating the overthrow of Iran’s popular Prime Minister, Mohammed Mossadeqh. The Eisenhower Administration believed its actions were justified for strategic reasons; but the coup was clearly a setback for Iran’s political development. And it is easy to see now why many Iranians continue to resent this intervention by America in their internal affairs.?
We supported Saddam Hussein. We supported Osama bin Laden when he was in the mujahadeen. It’s time we stop interfering in their affairs. It’s the reason they attack us. It’s the reason they hate us. And most importantly, we have made a LOT of mistakes, funding and supporting people who later became enemies!

I have the greatest respect for our servicemen, but this war is not about defending our right to say what we want. Honestly, World War 2 was the last war where we actually fought to defend our liberty and freedom. Our freedoms and liberties are not at stake.
The only people infringing on our freedoms are our own government! Look at the Patriot act. Warrantless wiretapping. Executive orders. Our freedoms and liberties are being restricted by our own government, not terrorists.
“Why then, are they so anxious to surrender our freedoms with legislation like the Patriot Act, a repeal of our 4th amendment rights, executive orders, and presidential signing statements? With politicians like these, who needs terrorists? Do they think if we destroy our freedoms for the terrorists they will no longer have a reason to attack us?”

My question is, how do you reconcile that with polls taken in Iraq that show that they want us out? There have been numerous polls and surveys done there, and they want us to leave.
Ron’s Iraq position seems to be the only point most people have against him.
There is no doubt that national security is a major issue. You have to ask yourself however whose rights are more important to you.
Do you want another term of a president who will continue to erode our civil liberties, spend uncontrollably and pander to special interests so that Iraqis can be free?
Basically that’s what it comes down to. The top Republican candidates all blow common campaign smoke about republican values but not one of them has a record of standing up for the constitution, lower spending, and civil liberties except Ron Paul.
In regards to Iraq I am a bit torn myself. Regardless of whether we have gone, we did.
Now we have a country that desperately wants their freedom but they are unable to achieve it.
A dirty secret is that many of the Iraqis are very happy that we deposed Saddam, yet are very unhappy we are in turn forcing another bad government on them.
Basically our being there is a band aid. We can delay civil war there but we cannot prevent it.
We can support the Iraqi government for 6 months or 60 years and the result will be the same. As soon as we pull out the factions will war amongst themselves to establish a natural order.
Are you willing to sacrifice your neighbor, or is your neighbor willing to sacrifice you for a policy that will inevitably fail as soon as we leave?
Our troops are in danger because we are standing in the way of true Iraqi freedom.
Imagine if during the revolutionary war France aided us in destroying the British and in turn installed a French modeled government to save the loyalists and rebels from fighting. We’d all want the French out so that we could determine our own path.
To conclude, Ron’s version of fighting terrorism doesn’t include large scale military invasions causing hundreds of thousands of innocent casualties and harming only a few of the actual enemy. He believes in more efficient methods such as letters of marque. This would allow private firms such as Blackwater to hunt terrorists.
Their very livelihood would depend on accurately eliminating actual terrorists without causing international issue or civilian casualties.
Ask yourself. If your neighbor was a terrorist would you rather have a security force come in and get him without major incident or have the government drop a bomb on his house likely killing you as well.
I’m sure the Iraqis and Afghanis feel the same way.
in all fairness to your discussion, the draft issue is not a rumor started by the “dems” to scare everyone away from voting for a republican. it was initially a bill reintroduced BY democrat Charles Rangel. There is far more to this conflict than can be seen by looking at Iraq in a bubble. the thing you have to look at is the fact that we are in over 180 countries with bases and standing military, and our CIA often funds dictators with military weapons to overthrow their current governments(sometimes democratically elected ones) only to give the next revolution weapons as well. This serves two purposes, selling more weapons for the military/industrial complex lobby, and not allowing these nations to grow and threaten our power.
however the beaurocracies surrounding these types of actions come at a great financial cost, and serve to make us look like something that does not reflect the image set upon by our founding fathers. we are heading towards the overextension that brought down the soviet union, hitler’s nazi germany, and the roman empire.
something to remember about the roman empire, is that even during its imperial stage it still claimed to be a representative republic, just like ours, had a congress, consuls(similar to our president), etc. just as common law deteriorated, and people became obsessed with imperial foreign war, the death of Julius Caeser lead to a catalyst that caused the suspension of any real potency past the executor of govt. noone ever “decided” rome would be an empire. it was called that because of its authoritarian rule and huge military scope and colonization
“Michelle said…
He is against the Defense of Marriage amendment. “
He voted for the Defense of Marriage Act, which is all that is necessary. We don’t need to go fiddling with the Constitution at every whim when it can be handled 1) through the states, or 2) through federal legislation when Constitutionally permissible.
I think many of us do not understand his positions on Iraq in full.
We tend to think, support our troops and we need to be there. The process of America’s Foreign intervention and force has come about because neo-cons have hijacked the party. They tell you that if you don’t support, you are unpatriotic etc..
While we are over there forcing democracy, because that is what we are doing. Iran is on the radar, and then Syria. - We are going bankrupt, borrowing billions a day from China and federal reserve is printing ‘paper money’ to cover the shortfall - thus inflation is rising.
We have to look at this Iraq issue in full. No weapons, no Iraq’s on the plane, etc… there are alot of reasons why we are over there - but as greenspans said - its about oil. But more than that, its about setting up a central bank over there.
As we are dealing with this war, the Patriot Act comes into play - this document gives the administration to pretty do anything in the name of national security. I mean “anything”.
Our own borders are WIDE OPEN because the slave labour is needed and it dilutes americans values for other cultures that want additional open borders. The North American Union. A HUGE ASSAULT on our Sovereignty.
Others here like Huckabee - well, if you like amnesty and open borders, then Huckabee is the man for you. No thank you.
Remember, true freedom comes from us - the government has grown too big and too powerful. Those on the left and right have conspired to create a huge juggernaut that controls you. Open borders, endless wars and who do you think is gonna pay for all this? YOU!
Also - Ron Paul is a former AirForce flight surgeon and he has ALWAYS voted for increased veteran benefits. Always.
He believes in a STRONG NATION DEFENSE, but a defense - not an offense.
I can’t stress enough to many of you. Our Liberties and Freedoms are really on the precipice. We have been cajoled by our pandering politicians to believe anything. Whatever they say. And now the North American Union is coming and the concept of fighting this “terror tactic” is neverending, for how do you wage war against a tactic?
I have done a HUGE AMOUNT of research. Ron Paul is truly the last defense for the America as we know it.
Its time we all take back America. I mean, the government is us, isn’t it? But I dont’ feel that way, do you?
Remember, Ron Paul called this war in 2002 and called this coming recession. He told us what would happen, and it has all come to pass.
WOW! What a debate is going on. I think it is so sad that among CHRISTIAN WOMEN we can be so divided. I have heard a lot of good things about Ron Paul, but I have also heard a lot of bad. I personally feel that electing a moral president who is knowledgeable about the issues is more important than to stay in Iraq or get out. I honestly just want to know that he is working on the issue and has a plan that will be put into motion BUT that he cares about homeschooling, does not support abortion (which I have heard Ron Paul does support a woman’s choice, but again that is what I have heard). HSLDA supports Mike Huckabee. The Harris brothers from The Rebelution (a GREAT blog) support Huckabee (they even have a blog called ihearthuckabee.blogspot.com
http://makinghome.blogspot.com/ has some GREAT information on the candidates and Huckabee. I suggest checking out her site.
