What diapers do you luv?

I’m a whatever’s-cheap girl when it comes to diapers. When our oldest was wee tiny, we tried each brand once and decided that she was going to leak around her skinny little legs no matter what brand we used, so why pay more?
We’re pretty satisfied with the Parent’s Choice diapers we get from WalMart, but free is an even better deal so I was tickled to try a free sample of Luvs when it was offered to me.
But this was no ordinary sample. Luvs now have Bear Hug Stretch. This means that we felt obligated to tear open the package as soon as it arrived and test the tabs to see just how far they would stretch.
Remember those Little Caesar pizza commercials, where the cheese stretched for impossibly long distances? Let’s just say you could wrap these tabs around a really fat baby. Or two.
Test number one
Do they fit securely? pass
Then I wrapped the tabs around The Boy, resisting the urge to bring them twice around his waist and up over his shoulders. He was having…ahem…loose bowels…so this would be a good time for a test. Too much info? What did you expect in a post about diapers?
Test number two
Do they control/prevent leakage? pass
Did I mention that The Boy eats far more than any of the girls ever did? It makes sense that he also poops far more. He gave these diapers a run for their money when it came to capacity, and I noticed a marked difference.
Test number three
Do they hold plenty? pass
My girls who help with diaper changes also agree that we seemed to have far less leaks, both because of better capacity and because of the cool uber-stretchiness of the tabs. They also agree that it was really fun to see just how far they would stretch.
They also noticed that the velcro was stronger than on the diapers we usually use. This made it harder for The Boy to shed his diaper prematurely.
The bottom line: Would I buy Luvs? Depending on the price, I just might switch. Better capacity = less frequent changes (we change dirty ones right away of course, but not wet ones). Less leaks also means fewer headaches for me, which will save money on ibuprofen and chocolate. Coupons could even make these cheaper than the store brands.
Test number four
Are they a good value? pass
no - wait - less chocolate? I changed my mind!

I find they work well enough, but they smell horrendous. Is that weird? The clean diapers smell worse than the messy ones, and that drives me crazy. I can’t buy them if only on that count. I’m about to switch to cloth because the only ones I find that don’t smell funny are pretty expensive.
I’m curious that you haven’t mentioned Sam’s Club or other “club” diapers. I’m guessing you find grocery store stuff is cheaper? We usually get the mega-boxes at Sam’s though I’m not sure we save much.
I keep checking to see if you have a new CBD coupon. :] I know last time the “expired” one worked for a while but CBD is wise to this last one, waah!!

I prefer Parents Choice to Luvs. The smell of Luvs get to me, and my kids have sensitive skin so scents are a no no. My SIL’s use Luvs & swear by them.
I swore by Luvs when my kids were little especially for the lower price than Pampers. Go to their website and register for coupons (but hey your frugal so you probobly allready did that).
I have to buy Pampers. They work well and I love the smell of the new diapers when you open the package. I usually stock up when our local grocery store has a sale combined with really good coupons they come out at about the same price as the cheaper brands.

You might update with age of boy and size you used! Some diapers work well with different ages.
I’ve found Luvs to be an older version of Pampers (someone else told me) b/c both are made by P&G company. I’ll buy Luvs if sale and/or coupon but haven’t found much of those except the last few weeks (Target had good deal and online coupon). Usually end up buying Pampers with coupon and/or sale.

We use name brand ones with our newborns…they are softer and hold “stuff” much better. I start stocking up with sales and coupons months before the little one is born. But…once they hit stage 2 diapers…it’s on to Parent’s Choice. We love them!

P.S. I’ve been a lurker for some time…enjoy your blog!
I “luv” Pampers Swaddlers for a newborn and then we switch to cloth at about 1 month old. We keep using Pampers for the church nursery and for babysitters. By that I mean that we use Pampers for use in the church nursery and for the baby to wear when we have a babysitter!
I love Luvs diapers for when I used disposables. They were the only ones that didn’t leak for us. I also saw a 4-H project on diapers, they tested which ones held the most, and Luvs won.
I use cloth now, and I am must happier, I don’t spend money on diapers any more! Even if I have two more kids, I have enough diapers!
I am featuring a book my friend wrote, it is something most mom’s would like to read, and she is a wonderful Christian lady. I thought you might be interested in signing up for a give-away.
