Blog questions and answers
You’re probably aware that we recently changed the address of our blog from blogspot to our own domain, http://inashoe.com.
Important: In moving from Blogger to our own domain, I managed to duplicate the feed. I’ll be deleting the extra one later this week, so if you use a feed and you stop receiving Life in a Shoe soon, you’ll know why. Just stop in for a visit and resubscribe, and I promise it won’t happen again. This should only affect a few readers, so don’t everybody panic.
Along with the move came a few other changes:
- We are now a family blog; not only did I bring over all my own old posts, but we brought over hubby’s posts and those of the 4 oldest children. All will be blogging here as they find time.
- We switched from Blogger to Wordpress. This means that readers will be able to subscribe to comments, and nobody will need a blogger account in order to comment. This also means that we can be sneaky and schedule posts to appear when we are nowhere near a computer. Can you hear the evil laughter?
- The template changed. We will be tirelessly tweaking the look and features as we learn more about the code inside Wordpress.
- If you link to our blog, please update your link and let us know, and we’ll add you to the Blog tab at the top of the header.
We would love your input on several topics:
- Feel free to offer your opinions on the theme, header, background, etc.
- Let us know if anything isn’t working properly. I know the videos in previous posts will need to be fixed, since they didn’t survive the move. Is there anything else?
- Would you be interested a seeing a step-by-step account of how we switched from Blogger to Wordpress? I’m thinking particularly of detailing the importation process.
- Should the list of people who link to us be neatly and sensibly arranged in alphabetical order or should we reward frequent bloggers by having recently updated blogs moved automatically to the top of the list? I want you to know that one of these options will make me very happy, while the other will make my eye twitch. But it’s not all about my eye, is it?
If you're new here, please take a moment to introduce yourself! If you enjoyed this post, feel free to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

My links are updated so all can find you.
Oh, an alphabetical list is sufficient. Anything that makes one eye twitch is usually not really worth it. Have fun tweaking the site.
I’m posting this just in case others might have the same problem I was having. And, maybe this will just make my techno ignorance more apparent : )
I was stymied last night while updating your new address on our blog. I changed the link to http://inashoe.com and our website links kept taking me back to your old address http://inashoe.blogspot.com. Ashley finally suggested adding http://www. into the url link and whalla! it finally worked. Any suggestions as to why I needed to add the http://www., since the url I am currently typing on says http://inashoe.com?
Thanks!

not yet….
it worked but not the comments are all out of order…
Hi! I have a link to your new website on my blog. If you like, feel free to link to my blog. :]
Laralee,
It may have had to do with an automatic redirect I had set up before we were using this new site. Before it was ready, we wanted people who showed up by accident to be automatically taken to the old blog (which was the current blog at the time).
I disabled the redirect, but your browser might continue to remember and still followed the redirect. Sometimes computers are too smart for their own good, ya know?
Either address *should* be working, but let me know if you still have problems for much longer.
I would love if you showed us the process of moving from blogger to wordpress. I am thinking of moving my blog and I have no idea where to start.
I think I adjusted the time zone…
Link is updated! The site is looking great!
I like the idea of recently updated blogs being on top.
I love your header but think the white background is boring and I also look forward to reading posts from your family members.
mj,
Do you mean the white background on the body and sidebars, or in the header?
We’re working on new header ideas - the “under construction” is literal. Maybe I’ll toss an idea in the works up there, and just plan on changing again soon.
Would you all like that?
My link is all updated so people can get to your site from my blog.
Alphabetical order is sufficient, if having recently updated blogs at the top will make your eyes twitch…however…I think it would be entertaining for the rest of us to have updated blogs at the top. But, don’t feel obligated to do it just because I would like it!

YES! YES! YES!
You’re all updated at my place. Also, congratulations on the next little family member! We had our third girl a month ago (no boys - yet?), and I’m definitely beginning to get the hang of this girl thing.
I know you understand…
also, you might check your timestamp; I live in Mountain Time where it’s 3:47 pm and your blog thinks it’s 9:47…
I updated my link right away when you moved.
I like the import idea!! It would be very helpful…
I’m guessing the alphabatizing constantly would make your eye twitch, eh?
God bless,
Sallie
I meant the background on the body and sidebars…….
Hi Kim,
I have updated you on my blog!
Also, since I have not been in ‘blogdom’ lately, I want to congratulate you on your “2 lines”!!!! Oh, how exciting!
Blessings to you,
Dana
Hey there lady and welcome to wordpress. I appreciated you explaining why you had switched b/c my husband (reading over my shoulder) had asked since he has often recommended blogger to others while we are on wordpress ourselves… I was thinking you were pregnant but time (weeks) passed by w/o me having a moment to get back to see … and to find that you moved! I think I’m all caught up now and I hope your pregnancy sticks (literally I guess) and you still don’t feel sick and you have a slew of little boys to follow all your (not so little) girls. I also loved the entry about Rachel - she sounds like my 3-yr old! Congrats on the new expectation. And as to this blog/website, I miss the green, or wish somehow the attention was drawn more easily to the text vs. the sidebars (it all blends together a little at present but I know nothing about possibilities). I hope to keep up again more regularly if this month doesn’t speed by like last…
I’m at the edge of my seat waiting for that Blogger to WP tutorial (ahem).
Hurry before I fall off!
I also wonder how your own domain work went? You eluded to its technicality… how bad is it, really? Tell me tell me.
