“Cold”

Mom says that it is not cold here; we just think it is cold. I know I kind of believe that it is colder in the “normal” places, but it has to be kind of cold here in some ways and I found one way this morning.

This morning I got up feeling groggy and remembering that it is not really cold, just “cold.” My eyes were rather cloudy, my body was awake, but my brain was hardly out of dreaming, so I recited a memorized and robotic “Hi” as I walked past Mom to the bathroom.  When I got there I realized that some things even in Texas are cold. The toilet seat is cold.

But a good latte makes it all better.  Megan and I are always competing in lattes. I find that it works best to just find ingredients and mix them around. Here are the most commonly used in our house:

Start with:

1/2 a cup of coffee, and milk

Add however much of:

  • Vanilla
  • Heavy Whipping cream
  • Chocolate syrup
  • Cinnamon
  • Anything yummy and chocolatish

What do you think is good?

  1. I was lucky to get an espresso machine for my wedding. I use the steam bar thing on there to froth the milk, and then I pour the steamed milk/froth on top of the coffee.

Without an espresso machine, you might try using a mixer on the heavy cream so it’s nice and froth, if that’s how you like it.

  2. Kaitlin,
I gess it is starting to get cold in the USA, but in AUS it is getting hot!

  3. Sounds like my ice coffee. I make a really strong pot of decaf. (breastfeeding). I have a pitcher in the fridge for it. A little sugar, a squirt of chocolate syrup, 60%-65% coffee and top it off with milk. Nice big glass, stir and enjoy. Think I will go fix one now! Good Morning. :)

  4. Around here, Dad has the most interesting cup of coffee – he uses eggnog to cream it – the moment the stores start to sell it in the fall.

Me, I like a little coffee, cocoa and sugar, and a full cup of milk, heated again of course. I’m not a coffee drinker – that’s my mocha cocoa.

  5. Suz,
Your mocha cocoa sounds just like mine most mornings. I’m trying to stay away from coffee, but if I can keep it down to 1/3 or 1/4 of a cup then I feel I’m doing pretty well.

  6. Mmm… they all sound good. :) Lately, since we moved to Arizona, I have been drinking iced coffee.

I take a large glass, pour in about 2 1/2 inches of coffee, add a teaspoon of sugar, then ice cubes & fill the rest with milk.

Mmm! Not too much coffee, but just enough. :) The chocolate or eggnog sound like great additions, though…
    Amy :)

PS–and I know what you mean about “cold”… here, it’s colder than it was this summer, but not anything like it is back in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, where we came from!

  7. Anyone know how to make it taste just like a Mocha Joe from BK?

I’m talking EXACT science stuff… I LOVE a good latte.

  8. Because of this, I added chocolate syrup to my coffee this morning and let me say it was YUMMY!
