Here I sit, sipping a coffee mug of warm water (because it’s not noon yet). I’m wracking my brain for blog fodder, because I assume you really don’t want to know how many times I’ve thrown up today. Surely there’s more to life than vomit?
The house is quiet and nearly empty. Hubby took 5 children with him today, leaving me with just one Big One (9yo Meg) and the two Littles. Meg is building a blanket tent with 3yo Rachael in the living room while 17mo teething Boy squirms uncomfortably in my lap.
Meg is a great help with the little ones, a tireless and self-motivated worker, and a Friday-night-pizza maker extraordinaire. Hubby has left me in good hands.
And for those who recently asked how I stay in shape with so many pregnancies so close together, I’ve just realized something. Not only does morning sickness keep off the extra weight; it also provides a fantastic workout for the upper and lower abs, with some additional toning for the back and legs.

Um…that’s feed as in an automated way to see updates to our blog. Not related to my current food issues.
If you’ve noticed that our feed isn’t working lately, you’re not alone. We’re aware and panicking right along with you. You’ll here the roar of applause from South Texas when it’s fixed; in the meantime, please bear with us and check in for updates. You never what you might miss if you don’t.

Yesterday we were out of the house for most of the day, meeting friends and running errands. Usually my morning sickness is “distractible” but not this time. I was slightly appalled to find myself hugging 3 public toilets in various locations. I do have to mention that Goodwill on I-10 keeps their toilets sparkling clean, inside and out. I appreciate that about them.
I’m not sure if I was more or less appalled when I found myself ralphing into a coffee cup in the WalMart parking lot. In spite of a delightful visit with our friends, yesterday was not an entirely pleasant day. But that’s not what I was going to blog about.
A couple of days ago, my stomach and I came to an agreement.
Since everything eaten before noon comes right back up, I have quit eating before noon. After noon, my stomach and I do a coin toss each time I eat: heads, the food stays; tails, it goes.
You may think my stomach has won, but this is actually a good deal from my perspective. I hate, hate, hate to throw up actual food. When that happens, I can hardly bring myself to eat that type of food again. Over the last couple of weeks I have developed serious issues with eggs, milk and cheese. I’m running out of protein foods and didn’t want to jeopardize peanut butter and meat, so this deal was good timing.
Also, my blood sugar gets very low if I don’t keep eating once I’ve started. This means that all morning, I am nauseated, vomiting, and struggling with low blood sugar (because the food doesn’t count if it won’t stay down, ya know?).
My fasting blood sugar, on the other hand, is relatively stable. If I don’t start eating, I’m fine.
So I’m happily heaving the morning away, running for the bathroom at regular intervals but with the carefree steps of a woman who knows that her stomach is already empty.
And the rest of the day? It’s a gamble. You win some, you lose some. On the bright side, I weigh less than my wedding day. This would be a good time to try on my wedding dress, though I suspect the waist might not fit the way I remember.
