Nausea, on a scale of 1-10
- “Sick? A little queasy, but I didn’t notice until you mentioned it.”
- “Oh, I’m a bit queasy but it doesn’t slow me down.”
- “It’s slowing me down, but I’m fine.”
- “I’m not feeling well, but I can still function.”
- “I think I’ll go lie down for just a minute. I’ll be right back.”
- “I’m going to take a break. I’ll be back later.”
- “Dinner? Can you girls think of something to cook?”
- “Is the bathroom empty?”
- “Get out of the bathroom now.“
- Blech!
So far, I have felt blessed to keep it mostly between 3 and 7. Afternoons are generally the worst, though 8-10 have always happened in the morning.
When I feel it creeping up past 5, lying down immediately helps - especially if I do it as soon as possible. I feel so blessed in this season of life to have the privilege to do so. Not too many years ago, it simply wasn’t an option. Diapers needed to be changed, little mouths needed to be fed, babies and toddlers needed to be supervised, and I was the only one who could do it.
For those who are still in that season, do not weary of doing well. This, too, shall pass, and God sees your sacrificial service to the little ones who need you.
2Th 3:13 But ye, brethren, be not weary in well-doing.

I am so sorry Kim! The dear church women are going to get some meals your way so that you don’t have to worry about it. In the meantime, we are praying for you
I am now 17 weeks with #3. I was for 9 of those weeks in the 8-10 stage, barely able to get myself up to run for the bathroom! I made everyone use only one bathroom so I knew “mine” was always free! Now I am in the 4-7 stage depending on the time of day. Evenings are the worst for me. Praise God for the women at my church who brought us meals for over a month!! And my mom was here everyday while my hubby was working to take care of me and my little ones. I was also on Dr’s ordered bedrest for 8 weeks. I am glad to hear you are managing somewhat. I hope it only gets better. I don’t know how you do it with so many depending on you. I struggled so hard with only two! Any advice?
Amen to that! Having the children reach the double digits really changes everything, doesn’t it?
Amy,
I’m certainly not going to turn down offers of meals, but I didn’t mean to sound so pathetic. I’m pleasantly surprised and very thankful to be so *functional* at 9 weeks. It’s nearly unprecedented for me! And I’ve never before had so much help in-house. As morning sickness goes, this is quite a tolerable situation.
Tai,
My first 5 pregnancies were like that, and I had no help at home while hubby worked - except from the oldest, who was 6 by the time our 5th child was born. It was a very difficult time, but God saw us through one day at a time.
My advice to you? Persevere. It will get easier, not harder, as your children get older.
13 weeks here… I feel your pain. I’ll remember to pray for you!
When I had my little girl a year and a half ago, my older girls were 12 and 13. They were so incredible - they let me sleep in, brought me breakfast in bed so I wouldn’t have to lift my head until I had something on my tummy, and got chores done and school started with their brothers, all before I got up. I tell anyone: THIS is the time to be having babies!!!
But I don’t remember it being anywhere NEAR that easy with prior children. Now that the big girls are 14 and 15, I’m hoping to see if I can get the baby potty trained and the youngers reading out of the deal - now THAT would be AWESOME!
My second pregnancy was so rough! I would do something as simple as open the microwave or fridge and be hit with a wave of nausea! One day I magically slept until 1pm and woke up thinking it was morning. I asked my husband when he would take our son to preschool. His reply was, “We just got home from preschool.”
Just stopped by to visit your site. Your family is very inspiring on many levels. Keep up the good work for the Lord, and for your family.
With all six of my pregnancies, mine never got that bad. I am so sorry. I did have sciatica with my last one and ended up needing some older daughter help for a while; those bigger girls are such a blessing!
My first pregnancy was me worst one for morning sickness, and I always wondered how it would have been any other way. You are one tough lady. And blessed, too. May God bless you and your girls during this time.
