Thankful thoughts

Thursday may be past, but I’m still basking in the warm glow of a slow roasted turkey. I’m thankful…

  1. That my morning sickness, which was out of control on Tuesday and Wednesday, was markedly improved yesterday and today. Even if I feel like a phony for being so inexplicably unsick when hubby is home, I’m willing to suffer that bit of embarrassment in order to better enjoy his company - and to be better company to him.
  2. For helpful older daughters, who did the Thanksgiving baking on Wednesday with very little help from me.
  3. For a helpful hubby who cheerfully loaded up 6 children at 9:30 PM on Wednesday night to shop for Thanksgiving dinner fixin’s. He drove nearly 50 miles to find an unfrozen turkey, and didn’t get home until nearly 1 AM.
  4. For extended family around our table yesterday, for readings from Scripture and historical documents, and a rousing game of Dictionary, which promises to be a new favorite in our house.
  5. For extended family away from our table. For aunts, uncles, and cousins; great-aunts and great-uncles; for parents and grandparents and great grandparents; for siblings and in-laws. Being part of 2 large families (mine and hubby’s) means that we have an incredible extended family, and we count every member as a blessing!
  6. That I finished reading the book of Jeremiah. This is only my second time through the Bible in an orderly fashion, and although many of the specifics of Jeremiah’s prophecies still go over my head, a lot of it also makes much more sense this time around. I can’t wait for the 4th or 5th pass…
  7. For chatty readers who comment often, making blogging oh-so-much fun for this quiet mom.
  8. For the sweet ladies who too kindly nominated us in 2 different categories in the Homeschool Blog Awards. I’m speechless!
  9. For little ones that make me laugh. 3yo Rachael was looking at a book with pictures of penguins, trying to remember aloud what they were called. “Hmm…not jalapenos…not ducks…” She does this often. When trying to remember the word elephant she always starts by ruling out dragons, tigers and bears.
  10. For the many blessings and protection our nation has enjoyed in the few short centuries since America was founded. May we as a nation turn back to the LORD (did you know that every time the Bible shows LORD in all caps, the original text said Jehovah?).
  11. For leftover turkey sandwiches. mmmm.

  1. great list but whats the story behind #3 why did you wait so long?????

  2. Turkey on rye helped me through my extreme morning sickness with Ashley 25 years ago.

We had an extra turkey. Wish we had known. We could have saved you some miles and time.

We, too, are thankful for older daughters that contribute so much to the holiday food prep. Hope you feel better this weekend.

  3. We didn’t have room in the fridge to store a turkey for too long so waited until Monday or Tuesday to shop. I wasn’t feeling great Monday so decided to wait until Tuesday.
Then I was totally overcome by morning sickness Tuesday and decided it would have to wait til Wednesday. Surely I’d be better then; I could hardly be worse.
Hubby was working very long days Monday and Tuesday, so I didn’t want to ask him to stop on the way home; anyway, he usually carpools.
But on Wednesday, I *was* worse, and hubby had carpooled to work so he couldn’t even shop on the way home. He had to come all the way home to get his own vehicle, and once he made it home he obligingly took nearly all the children as well.
In retrospect, we both think I may have been down with a virus in addition to morning sickness.
At any rate, I am extremely thankful to be feeling more human today and yesterday.

  4. I’m so glad you’re feeling better now, and I’m cracking up at #9! Love that little redhead!

  5. glad your feeling better thats a story you’ll be telling for years to come I’m sure………oh the memories however trying they may be

  6. I am making concentrated efforts to not covet your turkey sandwiches… yum.

And I am not imaging there being fresh tomatos on them, and no crispy lettuce, and certainly no dollop of mayo — however small that dollop could be (oh, I forgot, it is not there, right?) — hmmmm. I miss turkey.

Perhaps I can convince all those folks out here to have turkey for Christmas instead of *f*i*s*h*?

Ah well, enjoy! Glad to hear you are doing better and your husband is my hero!

  7. What is “Dictionary”? That sounds like a fun game! :)

  8. [...] Stacie asked about the game Dictionary.  I was really hoping somebody would ask! [...]
