Horses

Current giveaway: Grandpa Jake's Campfire Cooker

Something crazy happened!

Monday we were getting ready to  go  somewhere,  and all three of our dogs started to bark at the same time. So I went to see what they were barking at … I saw a horse! I ran in and said,  “Mom! There is a horse in our yard!” I ran back out and another horse walked out  from behind some trees!

The horses’ names are Troy and Dusty.  Their owner is one of our neighbors and a few months ago she let us come over and ride them a few times.  She told us that Dusty is head shy so we shouldn’t pet him on the face.

When I saw both Troy and Dusty, then I slowly walked down and started calling them and they followed me up until they were in front of the house (they are good horses). My mom got a dog leash and put it on one of the the horses’ necks but it would not come, so she made it like a halter.  I told Mom how Dusty is head shy and she put the leash on Troy. He still wouldn’t come so she gave it a little slap on the shoulder and it startled it so it came.  After a little while, the other horse followed.

A fitting sermon

Current giveaway: Grandpa Jake's Campfire Cooker

Yesterday we had a guest preacher because our own pastor (along with much of the church) was out of town for the annual camping retreat.

The sermon text was Ecclesiastes 3:1-15.  It was a familiar passage, almost (dare I say it?) a cliche passage. But I will say it, because afterwards everyone in the congregation was saying the same thing:

“I didn’t think I would learn anything new from such a familiar passage, but you know what? I really needed to hear that this week because…”

We had several reasons of our own, and one didn’t become apparent until later that day.

Our God is sovereign. All of creation is in the palm of His hand. Everything that happens is part of His magnificent and intricate plan. This is a great comfort in good health and illness, in times of material blessing and hardship, in life and in death. Each member of the congregation was reassured by that reminder of God’s sovereignty, and each of us was convicted to suffer gratefully as God uses us in His mighty plan.

We are clay in His hand. Who are we to complain against the Potter?

And then on the way out to our van, a sweet young lady handed us 2 chicken potpies for tonight’s dinner! I have never received a meal so early in a pregnancy! How did she know that my morning sickness would be so much worse today?

Hearty congratulations to all the recent winners!

The winner of the F’all Y’all drawing, owner of a shiny new copy of Passionate Housewives and The Return of the Daughters, is Sandy of http://sandymom.blogspot.com.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And from the second Vision Forum drawing, we had 3 winners of $250 each
(codes corrected for misspellings)
Wait a second, just hold on.
Before we get to the winners of the $750.00 in Vision Forum products that we are giving away I must give a small disclaimer.
[Disclaimer: Neither KimC, my dear wife, or any of my daughters had anything to do with the nature of the prize announcement.]
Now on to the real news.
The first winner of the first $250 prize of Vision Forum merchandise is:
Vgttk Ujcemnghqtf at her website: dcemfgem.yqtfrtguu.eqo
The second winner is:
Kylbgc Egcbb at her website: egcbbdjmai.zjmeqnmr.amk
and the third winner:
pcvwtynrcvju at her website: jqoguejqqndnqiigt.eqo/pcvwtynrcvju
Now everyone go to the visit them and congratulate the winners!
Oh wait you say you don’t know where to go…let me explain.
The answers are, of course, in code; and since this is a contest that revolves around the catalog I thought it would be fun to encode the answers using the catalog and have another contest! (now, now, I know it’s brilliant. No applause necessary).
Now don’t fret. For those of you what are not code-minded or inclined to flip through the catalog, we will post decoded winners on Monday.
For the first person (excluding all winners from the last 30 days of course) to post all three correct answers,in the comments, I will give you a free spy cipher, copy of Passionate Housewives Desperate for God, and a free bookmark from our own Genevabiblepages.com.
So get to cracking and I will see you Monday.
Oh wait I almost forgot you need a clue. Your clue for the catalog-based cipher challenge is 96.
dscf6281 And the winners are (this time for real)....
Have a great weekend!
Do sunsets look like this at YOUR house?
185312 Do sunsets look like this at YOUR house?I didn’t think so. I took that picture by the way.
I’m letting my hair down
Current giveaway: Grandpa Jake's Campfire Cooker
But can you guess why?
I’ve been wearing my hair up in a clip since spring, and after many months of habit it became very difficult for me to wear it any other way. The tickling sensation drove me batty!
I finally let myself get talked into letting my hair down last week, and was pleasantly surprised to find that it didn’t bother me at all. Even better, I received several compliments. The clincher was when a good friend matter-of-factly announced that I looked younger with it down. That’s what friends are for. Our oldest daughter refers to her as my BFF.
I was talking to some friends last night and finally realized why it bothered me so much during the warm weather. Daddy longlegs. Our house was crawling with hundreds of these guys nearly every day for 6 months. They were falling on us from the ceiling, crawling up our legs and skirts, crunching under our bare feet in the mornings, and staring at us from every wall at every hour of the day.
Every hair that tickled my neck for those 6 months was automatically a daddy longleg. Or one of his legs, left behind a panicked flight.
Now that the weather has cooled a bit and the humidity is gone, the daddy longlegs are nearly gone from the house and my slightly insane neurosis has disappeared with hardly a trace. At least, I think so. Do I seem insane to you?
update:
Pictures?  You want pictures? On the advice of my children and against my own better judgment, here is a snapshot of me hamming it up with my long hair for the camera.  But now you’re not going to believe that part about my sanity.
Drawings end Friday!
Current giveaway: Grandpa Jake's Campfire Cooker
Just a quick reminder: if you haven’t already entered the 2 drawings, do it now!  Both end Friday night, 11:59 CST.  Be sure to follow the instructions when you enter – I won’t have time to email anyone whose entry is invalid.
The first: 3 winners will each win the $250 in Vision Forum merchandise that they chose!
The second: win a copy of two brand new, wildly popular items: Passionate Housewives: Desperate for God book and The Return of the Daughters DVD, plus a bonus of your choice!
If you get Life in a Shoe by email, feel free to forward this to your friends and invite them to enter the drawing as well.  They’ll need a blog for the first drawing, but not for the second.  Either way, the prizes are great since the winner gets to help choose.
Just try not to covet if your friend wins instead of you.  After all, you can always borrow from friends, right?
