Cal Thomas’ “conservative” credentials are pretty well established by now. His opinion bears considering. If you are considering a vote of Gov. Huckabee in your state’s primary I urge you to consider the Governor’s big government voting record.

Mr. Thomas isn’t the only one who sees it.

“Mike Huckabee… sounds like a big government Republican. The only one behaving like a real Republican is Ron Paul, who actually wants to cut spending and get government out of our lives. He won’t win the nomination because too many Republican are into handouts and redistribution, just like Democrats.

“It’s a sad political season if you are a conservative… Maybe a miracle will happen and Republicans will start behaving like Republicans again.”

  1. Mercy :

    Yeah!

    Go Ron Paul!!!!

We already put our vote in for him in NV. (where he came in second!) I appreciate his radical view point that gets us back to where we need to be again – FREE!

  2. Kate :

Although I am not decided yet who I will be voting for on Super Tuesday, I am seriously considering Mike Huckabee. My biggest reason is that he is the one I believe would stand the firmest on the pro-life issues—-and the one with the best pro-life track record. I have been giving it much thought…especially with the anniversary of Roe v. Wade today, and firmly feel this is the single most important moral issue facing our nation!

I know many who are talking about Ron Paul, because they feel he supports homeschoolers, but to me, steps towards stopping the shedding of innocent blood is the most important priority on my mind.

  3. Ron Paul, a obstetrician-gynecologist, is against abortion. Mike Huckabee is another Jimmy Carter in the making, I’m warning you Christians. He is playing a huge con game, intentionally or not. The man is not a conservative, not a constitutionalist, and panders to special interests. The CFR is courting him, too.

    New York for Ron Paul!

  4. Mark Pfeifer :

Mrs. Mecomber is right. Ron Paul is not only directly pro-life in that he opposes abortion, he is indirectly pro-life because through lower taxation and smaller government, he would eliminate government subsidies for the abortion providers like Planned Parenthood. Huckabee has a big heart but a soft head . . . Consider not only his big government voting record, but his sad record of letting murderers out of prison because their “pastor” says that they have “come to Jesus”. I have no doubt that the Governor is a sincere believer, but he has demonstrated that he does not have the ability to make the tough decisions that are required of a President.

Dad/Pc3 is also right: Dr. Paul is the ONLY candidate in this election who can legitimately call themselves a conservative.

I’ll go one step further . . . . from my own research I believe that Dr. Paul is the only candidate in this election from either party who has a set of principles that guide his life and his decision making. Popularity is clearly not his objective; for 20+ years he has been an often ostratcized voice in the House because he really believes in less government and MORE FREEDOM.

If you care at all about your freedom, or especially about the freedom of your children and grandchildren, it’s imperitive that you vote for Ron Paul and help his campaign. He is probably not electable, but if we show our support for him, he might make it onto the ticket as VP, and if nothing else the country and the GOP will hear our voice.

Rally around his flag — let’s tell the people in Washington that there are still men in this country who will choose freedom over government!

  5. Monica :

I’ve been reading your blog off and on for quite some time now and love hearing about your large and growing family. I am pro-Ron Paul all the way!! I don’t necessarily agree with his stance on every issue, but I agree on enough of the big ones AND love that his rhetoric matches his voting record!

As a Christian homeschooling mom, you may find this video interesting – and useful in convincing other Christian homeschooling parents that Ron Paul is the real conservative, and not Mike Huckabee: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=393BLypi1cc

(Oops… I was reading too quickly and didn’t realize that this particular post was by Perry…! Maybe I should’ve said “homeschooling dad”? :) Let’s just leave it at “Christian homeschooling parent.” ;) )

  7. Kate,

You are correct that protecting the unborn is terrible important.

However I would respectfully submit that while Gov. Huckabee is unreservedly pro life he isn’t the only person running who can say that about his record.

    Hi Perry:

How are you & yours ? We remember with fondness the hospitality you showed our family 3 years ago when we visited with you for dinner !

Nice to visit your & Kim’s blog. Ginger Lieberman told us about it & sent a link.

We’re encouraged to see you’re supportive of Ron Paul.

We are too, up here in Nacogdoches.

For the benfit of Kate or any others who are attracted to Mike Huckabee, Ron Paul’s credentials are un-equalled in terms of commitment to Pro-Life. Not just in a political sense, too.

He authored the ‘Sanctity of Life’ act in the House, which would have the effect of nullifying Roe V. Wade, if passed. It simply recongizes the personhood of the unborn life as being under the 5th & 14th Amendment Constituional protections, making Abortion illegal.

Mike Huckabee, on other issues, is a big government spender & builder. He is in no sense a limited government conservative, as his record of raising taxes, making homeschooing more difficult & iniviting illegal aliens to Arkansas during his tenue as Arkansas Governor attests.

We’ve got homeschool & church friends in Arkansas, who campaigned for ‘Pastor Huck’ for governor 10 years ago, and now they’re warning the broader evangelical community in America of their bitter experience with him as Governor. We’ve heard their warning – and are thus unwilling to sign on to ‘Huck’s Army’.

Ron Paul, on the other hand, his ‘walk matches his talk’. He’s a devoted Christian man married for 50 years with 5 children & 18 grandchildren. What a testimony….

http://www.RonPaul2008.com is a great site to discover the depth of him & his positions. Of special note is the fact that he’s a trained economist (head of the house banking committee) who can diagonse the ills that threaten our nations economic stability.

His postion on Homeschooling freedoms is by far the most Principled & detailed.

He also supports medical alternatives, which is of concern to larger families like ours. He articulates that the FDA & ‘big Pharma’ have raised health care costs & limited our choices – his experience as a OBY-GYN running a private practice – 4,000 babies delivered – give him authority to speak like few possess. He can articulate against Hillary’s socialist medical plan.

I’m sorry to go on at length, but there is so VERY much at stake in this election. We’re at a crossroads as a nation. We must decide if we want to approve of the status quo – bigger government, globalism even, and controlled markets & losing the independance of our families.

Every candidate, besides Ron Paul, stands for this – they’re only arguing about changing the room decorations.

Ron Paul is telling us our foundation is wrong & falling apart. His warnings, if heeded, can help send America towards Liberty, instead of away from it.

Our children’s children will be blessed if we take these warnings seriously !

I’m confident you’ll discover this if you look into it.

    God bless you all,

    David Bazley

I’m just browsing around your blog and I like it more and more! I think you found a fan. Even though this post is a little dated, I found it fascinating that my Pastor and Christian acquaintances who supported Huckabee would rant on and on about how Clinton and Obama were on judicialwatch’s list of most corrupt politicians.. but never once mentioned that Huckabee was also on that top ten list. :)
