Fun Links from the old blog

The kids have rediscovered my old collection of fun links and asked me to move them here to the new blog for easier access. I’ve added them to the sidebar as well. Enjoy, and come back to tell us your favorite!

  • Africa webcam - Somehow it’s much cooler to see a real, live wild zebra 12,000 miles away than one at the local zoo that has never set hoof in Africa. Try to resist the temptation to sit and watch all day, just waiting for something to happen. Or at least take the opportunity to learn a little about time zones.
  • Building Stonehenge - One guy’s hypothesis on how it was done without modern machinery
  • Class Brain - a plethora of games you can let your kids play without guilt, even during school hours
  • Color Vision Test - I learned a lot from this one. My husband introduced me to it.
  • Dude Falling - we laugh ourselves stupid silly every time we watch this. The Boy especially likes it.
  • Escapa game - addicting. Don’t try it. I mean it. I warned you.
  • Family at the Bridge - A simple logic puzzle. Can you solve it?
  • Hoops & Yoyo talk about manners - These were too funny and it helps that they were right on.  How often can kids get more polite while shoving each other to get a good view of the computer monitor?
  • Missionaries & Cannibals - Another logic puzzle. You can get it if you managed to save the family above.
  • Online Puzzle Games - more of the same. Because ask any guy and he’ll tell you that women are sorely in need of logic. Here’s the chance to practice. It’s our duty to society.
  • Place the States Game - A fun geography test. You might want to practice a bit before you let the kids see your score. Or just make them do it.
  • Rollercoaster - Simple, unimpressive graphics demonstrate physics in action. You won’t be instantly addicted; you’ll just want to try once more…and once more…and once more…
  • Sheep Dash - Test your reaction time. Prepare to be humiliated if you let your kids try this one.
  • World’s Weirdest Animals - somebody said that one of these looked like a sad placenta. Can you guess which one?

Is there something you think we really should add? Let us know in the comments.

  1. Thanks Kim! I love the Missionary Game.

  2. That stonehenge video was amazing! I’m going to work my way through the rest of the links - thanks!

  3. That color one scared the DICKENS out of me!

  4. Love these! The kids, dh and I had fun with quite a few of them this afternoon. :-) I also appreciate you sharing your smaller living space tips below. We are MAJORLY downsizing with our move next week, and I’m worried about how we’ll cope, and we only have 3 (#4 is due this summer)! It’s so encouraging to hear how bigger families do it.

  5. Am I dumb that I can never figure out the family at the bridge problem?

  6. Ever since we discovered them on your old blog, my kids have LOVED the missionaries and states games, and the Africa webcam. My 2nd daughter became incredibly proficient at the geography games because of it, and is now a geography buff. We owe it all to youuuuu.

    :-)

  7. The one on manners was *really* cute as well.

Stay out of the M&M jar, everybody!!

  8. The color vision one is evil! It certainly got me!

  9. I just need to walk slowly away from the computer . . . these are so addicting. Thanks. =)

  10. Mrs. C,
Thanks for the reminder. I just added Hoops and Yoyo Talk About Manners. We loved those! Is that what you were referring to?

  11. Been reading and enjoying your site for quite a while but hadn’t commented before. We started working our way through your links today and really enjoyed Stonehenge. Very cool. I was so shocked though at the colour test one; I so did not expect you to have something like that one on your site. I had my kids with me. It really upset us and I’m not a prude (that I know of, lol). I don’t think I can try any of your other links after that, who know what other horrors are lurking in apparent innocence! I’ll keep reading though, I really enjoy your posts.

  12. Yes, Kim, thank you!
