I’m cute for a fat chick.
I know it’s true, because my husband tells me so nearly every day when I’m pregnant, and you know what? My tummy still does flips whenever he says it to me.
I regularly remind him that not every man can get away with talking to his pregnant wife that way, and he knows it. But the reason he can is because he so self-consciously builds me up. He sweet-talks me every day. He tells me he loves me all the time. He tells me I’m beautiful, and he makes me believe him. He compliments me and flirts with me - and only me! I trust him entirely, so I instinctively interpret his comments in the best possible light.
And so when he smiles at me and kisses my neck and tells me I’m the cutest fat chick he knows, I can’t help feeling butterflies in my stomach, because I know exactly how he means it.

This morning, as we were savoring the last few minutes in our warm bed, he snuggled up close against my back and wrapped his arms around me. He pressed his cheek against the back of my neck and murmured into my ear, “Are you sure you’re not having twins this time? Cuz I’ve never seen you get this big so fast…” I just laughed, but I wish I had answered, “No, he probably just has a big head like his dad.” And then he would have said, “Ow. That’s gonna hurt.” Because that’s how we are. I love that about us.

HE??? HE has a big head? You got a sonogram and didn’t tell your closest 5,000 friends here?
Or I missed the “boy” post?
Because surely you can’t think of “boy” as the default gender in your family LOL!
This is such a cute post. My hubby tease each other a lot like that too! Blessings!
Mrs. C,
You missed the boy post. But don’t fret. It’s probably not what you think.
Oh now wouldn’t that be cool for you to have twin BOYS!
Rich and I are like that too. But he knows better than to call me fat.
lol
Mrs. Coghlan,
I enjoyed seeing you all again last month…The hugs from the girls were most welcome! I wish I could have introduced your daughters to my sisters - the fun would never stop!
Thanks for the post. It is encouraging to hear that marriage can still be fun after embarking on the raising of (soon to be) 9 kids. I’m grateful for the perspective reminder that you’ve given me.
Hugs,
Jen
