From the Vision Forum booth in OKC

I have learned that:

  • Moms should wear steel toed boots. I can’t count how many times the girls have stepped on my sandaled toes.
  • I shouldn’t have worn sandals. A cold front hit right after we arrived.
  • Another reason I shouldn’t have worn sandals: my left foot is swollen again.  I’d much rather have it hidden inside a nice boot.
  • The lunch hour is very quiet.
  • The 15 minutes after lunch hour is NOT quiet.
  • I suspect that I’m scary when I have 6 hours of sleep and a head cold. The readers who stopped by to say hi didn’t stay for long.
  • A clean diaper may be good for wiping up spilled coffee on tables full of books and CDs, but I dare you to try it with a straight face.
  • A small boy in a large hat will get a lot of second looks.
  • With 8 children, you can still get funny looks even at homeschooling conferences. This doesn’t surprise me at the grocery store, but it does surprise me at a gathering of homeschoolers. I guess we really have a lot of kids now.

  1. It was great to see you and to meet your husband whom I had not met when we got together last time. My friend and I enjoyed the conference so much to see.

  2. I was there one of the times your foot got stepped on! My husband and I came by the booth 3 times trying to make up our mind of what we wanted to buy. You were only there one of the times. I would have stayed to visit longer but you seemed really busy. By the way I thought your son looked really cute in the hat! And your children were very well behaved. I did not give you funny looks about how many kids you had, I was looking in amazement at how well your kids were doing after such a long weekend! We look forward to listening and viewing the stuff we bought. I was the one that ordered the Elsie’s on MP3. But you may have had lots of people order those. :) Thanks for all your work at the conference.

  3. We’ll miss you guys at church tomorrow!

And yes, I think you just barely qualify as truly having alot of kids. ;)

  4. Ah, to just go to EVERY SINGLE EVENT that VF has!!! That would be our ULTIMATE dream!!!

And I wouldn’t give you any funny looks at all!!!

But I do dearly wish I had 8 kids….so maybe I would give you a funny look, but it wouldn’t be a condemning look……it would be a look straight from a very full heart!!!

I’m glad it’s going well for you over in OK……

I pray that your head cold goes away! I always think a head cold is worse when one is pregnant.

  5. Lynn,
I do remember you, though all the toe-stompings blend together in my memory. :) And the other two times you came by, I was probably in the bathroom. The third trimester will do that…
I hope my comment about funny looks didn’t come across wrong - we think it’s fun to turn heads that way and we always giggle when we see strangers counting heads. We love being part of a big family, and we try to remember that onlookers nearly always assume that we are Christians so our behavior is a reflection upon our Lord.

    Kelli,
It was good to cross paths with you again. Be sure to let us know when you’re in town!

  6. Hey there Kim!
Hope all is going well for you! Bless you and all your kiddos at the conv/conf, I have four boys and I am like the biggest spectacle around where I live, so I am feeling you!! Keep plowing girl, I love you!

  7. Yesterday, I used a pair of panties to wipe ice cream off of my kid’s face. The store was out of napkins, and so was my purse. At least they were clean, right?

  8. Even with all your harrowing experiences, I still think to myself, “Wouldn’t it be fun to run a Vision Forum table for a day!”

  9. why are you at a booth for vision forum. I’m new to this blog. Do you work for them?

  10. Adlyn,
My husband works for them so we had the privilege of going as a family to do the booth in OKC. We love working together as a family and road trips are always exciting.
We’ll also be at the VF booth at the upcoming homeschool conferences in San Antonio, Plano, Houston - all in Texas.

  11. Oh, thanks for th info.
