Wilton “stuff”

Lately (thanks to the cake decorating video we got recently) Lydia and I have been doing a lot of cake decorating. Yesterday our Aunt asked us to make some cupcakes for dessert at a baby shower/family-get-together. Mom found this book at Wal-mart. It’s packed with all sorts of cute ideas for cupcakes! The picture is an idea we tried out. After looking through it I decided to go to The Wilton website. I looked and put together a list of things we really want (we would buy everything in the store if we could :) ) and it came to $50! Mom suggested that I post on the blog and ask you readers if any of you have things that you don’t use or need that you would sell for cheaper than buying new off the Wilton website? Here is my list of things we are especially looking for:

  1. A 9×13x2 sheet pan
  2. No. 230 Round Decorating Tip
  3. No. 32 Open Star Decorating Tip
  4. No. 105 Specialty Decorating Tip
  5. No. 252 Specialty Decorating Tip
  6. No. 95 Specialty Decorating Tip
  7. No. 100 Ruffle Decorating Tip
  8. No. 403 Ruffle Decorating Tip
  9. No. 194 Drop Flower Decorating Tip
  10. No. 2D Drop Flower Decorating Tip
  11. No. 150 Petal Decorating Tip
  12. No. 47 Basketweave Decorating Tip
  13. Ultimate 3-IN-1 Cake Caddy

But we want pretty much anything that we can get. We are also looking for Wilton books. Does anybody have any recommendations? If you have anything at all that you think we might be interested in let us know!

  1. Have you tried your local freecycle group of even craigslist in your area?? I would help if I could but cake decorating has never been one of my passions. The cupcakes are adorable!

An aside: we “only” have four children and our family is complete but I totally agree with and did “blanket training”. And my kids all slept 12 hours at night by 9 weeks old (that was the latest!!)

  2. (1) Sleeping tummy down, (2) under a blanket, and (3) on a soft surface in (4) a puddle of its own spit-up! What is this, the “How to Endanger Your Baby” cupcake??!!!

  3. To:
    (Mrs. ?) Samara,
The baby on the cupcake is not sleeping, but playing peek-a-boo, and that is icing not spit-up! :)

  4. I started Wilton cake decorating last year. Really love it when I have some time. HA! :)

I would suggest either Michael’s, Hobby Lobby or Joann’s to purchase Wilton items from. Both of these places frequently have 40% off coupons and carry most Wilton products. It might be more expensive than used, but it will definitely be cheaper than paying full retail price. I purchased one of the cake caddies for about $9 I think.

  5. Hi Kim and girls! I have some duplicate Wilton tips (received a second set as a gift). I am out of town right now, so I can’t check my supplies, but when I get home I will see if I have any of the tips you need. If I do have extras of the ones you need and if it would be acceptable to you, I’d love to send them free of charge as a small gift to your lovely girls. I will send you an e-mail after I get home if I have any of the pieces you need.

  6. Kim,
We are in the process of trying to increase our collection also. One way we have been able to get some great things is to go to Hobby Lobby. They often have 40% off anything in the store coupons you can print out, or 40% off Wilton products, coupons or sales. That has helped us get some great deals.

Happy baking, and the cupcake is so cute. I can’t wait to show it to our baker, Rachel.

  7. What an adorable cupcake!!! I want some the next time I’m expecting… oh, wait… only baby showers for 1st baby… ugh… not that I’m complaining… okay, I am complaing!!! Thanks for the book suggestion!

  8. OK, peek-a-boo. I should have recognized it :)

  9. That’s so cute! Can you explain how you made the baby itself? Or is that a little plastic thingy and how did you make the blanket? Cuuuuuuuuuuuuuuute!

  10. Norah Nick,
The babies are homemade fondant. I just rolled a little bit of it into a ball for the head and drew the features with a non-toxic marker. For the blanket I rolled some white out with a rolling pin and squished some yellow and pink squares onto it.

  11. Kaitlyn - Those are very cute. I have a few items at home that I would love to share with you. Do you have a PO Box, or a safe address to send them to? I don’t encourage anyone to give out there home address. Perhaps I could mail them to your father at work?

  12. Sharon,
Thank you very kindly!!! My mom is emailing you with an address right now. Oops- I almost forgot to say thank you very much to Lora K. and Suki, for the tip and offer. :)

  13. I have a storage box (it kind of resembles a fishing tackle box!) that I believe was made by Wilton. I bought it at Michaels when I was trying out cake decorating. It was not my thing! I would gladly sell it and whatever else is in it (tips and coloring, primarily I think) to you for less than I paid for it! If I can locate any other decorating supplies, I will happily pass them along!

  14. I just did a search on ebay for wilton and cake. Lots of good stuff there although the really economical stuff seems to be used. Most of my cake decorating stuff I inherited from my grandmother so it was ‘delicately pre-owned’ as well. YMMV. Lots of people clean out aunt Betty’s attic, find this sort of stuff, have no idea or desire how or to use it & sell it cheap.

If I see any around here at garage sales I’ll send it your way. I’m sure with all your helpers (aka sisters) you’d find a use for tips not on your list.
