Giveaway: CDs to help your family sing in harmony!

This drawing is closed.   The winner, chosen by the Random Integer Generator at Random.org, is Mrs. Klause.  Thanks to everyone who entered!

The delightful Serven family of the Genevan Foundation has released 2 new CDs! We have used and enjoyed their first 2 albums on learning to sing the Psalms in 4 part harmony; now there is a 3rd Psalm CD and - get this - a 4th CD with hymns!

The hymn CD includes the beautiful old classics that our family already knows and loves, and now we can learn to love them more. Selections include these favorites in our own household, plus several more:

  • All Glory Laud and Honor
  • How Shall the Young
  • Holy, Holy, Holy
  • Crown Him With Many Crowns
  • Come Thou Fount
  • Doxology

As with their other CDs, each song is presented 5 ways: Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass, and All. With each single part you can hear, very faintly, the other 3 parts. This helps to prepare you for the harmonies when all of the parts are put together, yet it’s soft enough that it doesn’t distract or confuse while you are learning. I think it’s a brilliant approach!

I also have to mention that the cover art is beautiful. I know; it shouldn’t matter, but it does. These CDs are lovely in every way, and we’re so happy that the Servens have added to their series.

The Giveaway:

Here’s more joy and happiness: Visit the Genevan Foundation website and come back to tell us your favorite Psalm or hymn from their collections. We’ll draw a winner from among the comments to receive a free copy of both new CDs!

  1. Be Thou My Vision is one of my favorite hymns! I would love to have this CD!

  2. Hymns for Kith and Kin - Come Thou Fount is by far my favorite hymn.

  3. Psalm 61 & 62 are my favorite Psalms, I spent several months reading just these Psalms each day after miscarriages and they really helped me through those dificult times.
I have so want to try their CD. We could sure use some help with our singing. Iit’s funny our oldest daughter will be Music Education teacher this fall and none of the rest of us can sing. You should hear us sing at family devotions.

  4. only one favorite?? that is hard! I love Be Thou My Vision and Holy Holy Holy.

I would love to win these cds–they would be great for our move!

  5. From Hymns for Kith and Kin, my favorite hymn is “Immortal, Invisible”…although it’s so hard to decide! And since one of my all-time favorite Psalms is Psalm 126 (on O Sing a New Psalm), I thought I’d include that, too!

  6. Oh my very favorite is Holy, Holy, holy! :)
    God Bless,
    Michele

  7. I like Crown Him with many Crowns.Blessings!

  8. From “Hymns for Kith & Kin”, my dd says to say “Holy, holy, holy” is the family favorite. A favorite of mine to sing is Psalm 100!

  9. I love O the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus! one of my faves :)

  10. Most assuredly my favorite is Come Thou Fount! I have been wanting to learn to sing parts and I am so glad they have made a CD to help with that!! Thanks for sharing!

  11. Our daughter (who will be 3 on the 31) is singing the Doxology, with all the correct words, just not when the congregation sings it! So that is her favorite from Hymns for Kith and Kin, which helped her learn it in the first place!

  12. Hymns for Kith and Kin - this would be wonderful for our family worship (none of us play the piano and we don’t have one anyway). Our kids already know Amazing Grace, Holy Holy Holy, but we haven’t learned most of the others.

    Great giveaway!!

  13. Our family’s favorite it Holy, Holy, Holy. I start singing it with my newborns and they all learn it really fast!

  14. Oh, I have been wanting to do this with our chidren.!My favorite is probably “Holy, Holy, Holy”.

    We enjoy your website.

  15. Hymns for Kith and Kin - we just got a piano for Christmas so this would be such an improvement over Mom trying to bang out hymns from the Trinity Hymnal………

  16. I found your site from the link on Janel’s. My favourite hymn is hard to choose, but the two on there that I like the best are Come Thou Fount and I Sing the Mighty Power of God. Thanks for offering this; I’ve always wanted to learn four part harmony!

  17. Hymns for Kith & Kin looks wonderful for family worship time! “Be Thou My Vision” is especially one of our favorites- we sang it at our wedding. :)
    Blessings,
    Michele :)

  18. We SO need some further Christ honoring music in our home that we can learn to sing in harmony as a family (we have 8 voices here so far! ) and I would love to win these! Crown Him With Many Crowns sounded beautiful!

  19. Beautiful music! I listened to some of the samples and I’d be delighted to win one of these!
My favorite hynm is “Holy Holy Holy”

  20. Ooohh, I can’t pick. My favorite 2 are Be Thou My Vision and Come Thou Fount. Of course, those are my 2 favorite hymns anyway.

These are really neat CD’s. We have some musically challenged people that might benefit from this.

  21. Oh, pick me! I tried to win (twice)your passionate housewives book giveaway (I still have to get that book too!) so I am going with Holy, holy, holy first and Be thou my vision second. Bless you!!

  22. Come Thou Font
    This part moves my heart…
O to grace how great a debtor
    Daily I’m constrained to be!
Let Thy goodness, like a fetter,
Bind my wandering heart to Thee.

We just started going to a little church where we sing from the hymnal and I was thinking it would be good to learn the parts instead of my voice just going all over the place. :)

  23. (Raising hand wildly) I have yet to win an online giveaway, but this one would be fantastic! So many of these are already a huge part of our family, but a relatively new favorite of ours (since becoming part of our great church) is “And Can It Be”. We find ourselves humming it all the time.

  24. Oh, this looks wonderful! I love many of the hymns, but my favorite is probably “Be Thou My Vision.”

    God bless,
    Michelle

  25. Be Thou My Vision is especially lovely.

  26. Be Thou My Vision is probably my favorite hymn of theirs…Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art!

    Thanks!

    Mae

I would love these, as I’m hoping to be able to teach our children harmony as they get old enough. My favorite song would probably be Come Thou Fount….

  29. This is a challenge. Holy, Holy, Holy and Crown Him With Many Crown would probably be it. This would be a great resource for our family and the small church my dh pastors as we sing acapella alot.

Thanks for all the great, family building giveaways!

  30. WHY CAN’T I SEE GOD IS MY CHOICE. I LOVE FOR MY KIDS TO HAVE THINGS LIKE THIS.

  31. It’s gotta be Great Is Thy Faithfulness! Thanks for the giveaway, I can’t wait to see who wins!

  32. Come Thou Fount is our congregation’s most favorite of all! I would so love to share these CD’s with them. Thanks for the great giveaway idea.

  33. “Be Thou My Vision…” and my husband says “Psalm 2!” Thanks for this info- we’ve been looking for something exactly like this!

  34. oh my goodness, they all look incredible!!! i am a little partial to “Be Thou my vision”. i’m going to have to get these for my family AND our homeschool childrens choir!!!!

  35. Come Thou Fount

I didn’t grow up singing hymns, and this was the first one that really stirred by heart.

    Blessing,
    Jasmine

  36. Hymns for Kith and Kin
Be Thou My Vision is my hands down fav!!!

    Nancy

  41. Just one favorite? Whew … that’s hard. I’d have to say it’s “Holy, Holy, Holy”.

    Blessings,
    Kathryn

  42. Holy, Holy, Holy…..thank you.

  43. I would have to say “And Can It Be”. Some dear friends of ours lost their eight-year old daughter to cancer last year, and this was one of the hymns we sang at her funeral. It will always have a special significance to us because of this.

    Melanie in KS

  44. “Crown Him With Many Crowns” has been my favorite for MANY years! Sang it in HS Chorus and it always makes me soar–back to when I was a first soprano, instead of the more matronly alto which I have become. All Glory Laud and Honor to our Lord!

  45. Oh my… Now how am I suppsed to pick a favorite? I would say probably Holy, Holy, Holy.

I have had my eye on this CD for some time now but have yet to set aside the pennies.

    ;0)

  46. I would say Great is Thy Faithfulness.

  47. I would have to say Holy, Holy, Holy :). Would love the hymn CD particularly!

  48. One of my husband’s all time favourite’s is And Can It Be but I can’t choose just one!

  49. I’ve drooled over these several times in the past couple of years, but not bought yet. Our oldest children are just starting to get the hang of 4-part harmony, it’s so much fun in family devotions!

One of my favorite hymns has always been “Holy Holy Holy,” it was actually a fave of my (now 5) year old daughter for nearly the entire year that she was 3, too. :-)

  50. holy, holy, holy is my favorite one
but as a choir teacher assisant - i also like all the songs on the childrens cd

  51. It may be too late, but I would love to be entered! I love pretty much all hymns, but really like And can it be and Crown Him with many crowns
