What’s working for me?
I really want to get back to participating in Works For Me Wednesday, but I’m having a hard time coming up with any new ideas. I have the usual suspicion that we have lots of unusual and helpful ideas in action around here, but I need to see things with a fresh eye. I feel like I need a total stranger to walk in and say, “Oh, you do that! What a great idea!” And I’ll be surprised that everyone else in the world doesn’t already do it my way. Then I will feel unique and brilliant, rather than sluggish and pregnant.
I’m not sure what my point is. Maybe you could offer a pregnant woman a pat on the back? Have I ever shared an idea that changed the way you do things in your house? It doesn’t have to be life changing. Just tell me you liked the way I matched socks or motivated kids to kill flies and decided to do it my way.

I haven’t had the opportunity to try it yet, but I think the blanket training thing is genius. and I am going to try it with my next.
OK, I’ll bite. I loved your “velcro in the van” idea, where you velcroed one of those plastic bag sleeve things into your van to have trash bags at the ready. We recently took a road trip, and I velcroed the directions (in a sleeve protector) and a ziploc of trash bags (b/c I don’t have a cool fabric thingy and it was too late to come up with one) on my side of the console (passenger). I didn’t have to scramble for directions ONCE when my husband asked, “Where do I turn next?” And an added bonus was that lots of other important papers (campground map, entrance info, my husband’s seminary graduation info) got shoved into that sheet protector and I still have them.
GOOD IDEA, KIM!!
I love the way you store things under your deck. I had to show my dh! I thought that was just a very neat idea!
If my parents don’t sell us their farm we will probably build so we love to look at floor plans - we are effeciency nuts! LOL
I think you had a recent post about Q&As on a large family, and talked about having just one basket for darks and one for whites in your bedroom for laundry that is for everyone’s laundry. Well, that’s working for me! I’ve just started, but it seems like it will be much easier than the ‘old’ system, where everyone had a basket, and since I hate laundry, I never do it until it’s overflowing, at which point I have 4 or 5 full baskets to do. I’m hoping this way I will be inspired to do laundry more often!
My favorite was the w*lmart list on the computer. I do that for C*stco too now as I only go once a month to these places. I print it off and put it on a clipboard when I go and use a highlighter to cross things off as they go in the cart.
Blanket training, shopping lists, laundry pre-sorting, sharing hairbrushes and toys, color-coding cups, fitting a large family into a small space - you name it, I’ve taken it on board for future use, and I’m not even a mommy yet! You just can’t beat KimC for sheer resourcefulness and common sense!
Thanks for sharing your ideas with us and I hope you feel inspired to post more soon.
Best wishes,
Hilary.
I guess that the work for me that helped the most (although there are many) was the color coded children (hehe), My oldest 4 already had a favorite color and I leaned toward buying things for them in there color but after I read how you did it something clicked and we use it alot now, If it’s orange it’s Marshalls makes things very easy.
I just love the way you write.. I heard from someone about storing the babies clothes in the laundry room, I think that was you. Anyway. I do that now..
I liked the diaper stashed in the car seat idea. It has come in handy on more than one occasion!
I liked your meal math posts and have been telling everyone about them. Genius!
I have the perfect title for next weeks WFMW post for you. DIY Reptile Extermination. Or how ’bout this, Home Exterminators - Extreme Edition.
Actually I think of this post http://inashoe.com/?p=1073 every time I am in the shower and I am thinking of taking the lazy way out and not shaving my legs. The amount of time I took trying to talk myself out of shaving I could have almost been done.. THere are several others I have loved as well. I think it is in the everyday living that you will dish out your best WFMW.
Hugs,
Brandi
