A poll on swollen feet

I was complaining yet again about my chronically fat feet and a friend asked me if my feet had swelled with The Boy.  The reason she asked is because she has one boy and one girl, and found that she swelled horribly with her boy but not a bit with her girl.

Strangely enough, the only bit of swelling I’ve ever had outside this pregnancy was with The Boy.  Never a hint with any of the girls.

Now I’m wondering: is it a gender tipoff?  Did you ever notice any correlation between the gender of your expected baby and your tendency to swell more or less or not at all?

  1. I retained a lot of water with all my pregnancies (4 girls one boy) so it my case it wouldn’t be a good predictor, however, your body may react diffrently to boy hormons than mine does.

  2. Not swelling, but I have noticed that with my boys I pretty much throw up alot early on or at least am very nauseas. With the girls I was always tired. Way more tired that normal. I could sleep all night and after being awake for 1-2 hours feel as if I hadn’t slept at all.

  3. Well I only have one child so I cannot compare gender and swollen feet or ankles. However, that child is a boy and I did not swell at all.

  4. I have three girls and then two boys and I only had swollen feet with the boys. The other differences were far less morning sickness with the boys then with the girls, and the girls seemed more active then the boys did. Opposite then what I expected. I hope you have a brother for the Boy. Our little guys are only 12 months apart and it can be tough but when I see them playing together it is all worth it because they have each other. My girls are fairly close together as well. Can’t wait to hear. Are you going to live blog another labor?

  5. Isn’t it amazing how all of our bodies are different, and react differently to the genders of our babies?

I am the sickest when carrying a girl, but I have friends that are the direct opposite.

Can’t weigh in on the poll. I have swelled with some and not with others…and I can’t for the life of me sort ‘em out anymore!
    :-)

  6. I had a girl. No swelling whatsoever. But I was pregnant mostly in the winter.

  7. My Pregancy was just different with my boy than with my other two. But because of the other two being high danger, I was still house bound. So I felt like it did not matter that I felt like I could do stuff…beacuse doctor and husband would not let me.

  8. I’ve had 3 boys, and 3 girls, and I have had swollen feet with all of them. I did have a boy my first pregnancy, so maybe that caused it all?? I have a lot more morning sickness with girls though!!! But my guess is that everybody’s body reacts differently to pregnancy.

  9. I had 3 boys, then 2 girls, then another boy. Only had noticable foot swelling with the last one.

  10. I’m definitely swelling more this time around being pregnant with a girl than I did with my son. I also had alot more morning sickness.

Of course, my son wasn’t exactly a “normal” pregnancy, and I actually delivered him at this week in pregnancy (30), so I’m probably not the best person to ask.

What I have noticed is that my chest size has gotten WAY bigger with this pregnancy than it did with my son. The nursing bras I wore with him after my milk came in are too small this time around. I wonder if that has something to do with the gender of the baby?

  11. I don’t remember my feet swelling with any of my boys (we have five) but my foot is a whole size bigger now.

    Blessings,
    Linda<

  12. Not for me. With my boy, I didn’t swell at all, and with my girl, I had huge feet and ankles.

  13. I had toxemia, so I swelled horribly with my son. No other blessings, so I can’t compare for you.

  14. I was swollen with all 4 of my girls.

  15. I’ve had swelling with babies #6 and #7. With #6 it was the worse, that baby was a girl. With #7, some swelling and that baby was a boy. My 5 previous pregnancies, I never experienced swelling.

  16. Sorry Kim, but I swelled with my girl and not with my boy.

You will just have to wait patiently to see what the Lord has for you…no peeking!

Praying for your comfort in these final weeks. Tracey

p.s. I have another progesterone cream question for you…did you have a “rest” period or use it daily for however long?

  17. My feet would swell to a disgusting size during my last pregnancy which ended in the delivery of a bouncing baby boy. My first pregnancy also resulted in a boy, but my feet didn’t swell up, although it was summer and my hands did swell up painfully. I don’t remember any swelling with my girls.

  18. I swelled more with my girl ~ my second girl, the one born 19 years after my first girl…. I had no significant swelling with any other babies. wait - I may have had some swelling with the one before her, too…. they all run together….
I suspect it may have more to due with mom’s busyness…. those days where I got plenty of sleep the night before and wasn’t crazy busy, I was far less swollen than I woud be on less restful days.
I was really suprised at how painful it was!

  19. My tummy swelled more with my boys than my girls. I gained alot more with my boys. And I think my ankles did swell more, but that could have been because the boys I was pregnant all summer and my girls were born earlier in summer.

  20. I’ve been lurking for a while and decided to break out and comment on your poll. I just have one daughter at this point, and I swelled just a tiny bit with her in the very late stages (mostly the last two months). I could still wear my shoes (albeit sneakers), but my socks would leave marks on my ankles as the day went on. I noticed it was worse on the days that I was working, as I sat on a stool at a teller window all day. When I was home and could put my feet up in the recliner, it was much better. Also, my daugther was born in April, so I was pregnant through the cooler months (praise God!). I also ate a diet that was very low in sodium, meat and processed foods, that included lots of fresh fruits and veggies.

My sister delivered her son in December, and she was quite swollen with him for most of the second half of her pregnancy.

  21. If it is a tip off, it will be a tip off just for you!

As our doctor likes to say, in general, these things are accurate for the whole population about 50% of the time…..

Yeah, we miss him since we moved, he was hysterical!

  22. 3 girls: swelled like a hot air balloon with the first, just got fat with the last two.

  23. I swelled a little with all three. The only difference was, with my girl, I was very sick (for 3 months). With the boys, I only got nautious a little bit. Both boys I went into premature labor and with Lillie I was normal.

  25. It has made no difference with me. I have 9 kids, age 12 days to 9 years, including 5 girls & 4 boys. I had very swollen feet with my first 3 babies (2 girls, 1 boy) and not since then, except a little with my twins (one of each).

  26. I had 5 boys before having the two girls and I never experienced swelling. I do have other tip offs though that let me know wether its a boy/girl.

  27. I swelled HORRIBLY with my last pregnancy- our second girl. Haven’t seen a link b/t swelling & gender of baby. Can’t wait to find out what you have- I’m sure you all are excited also! LOL

  28. Had two girls–swollen w/ #1, not so w/ # 2. Pg w/ boy, no swelling yet. Did have morning-noon-night sickness w/ both girls, w/ the boy just felt achy flu like instead. HTH! What’s your due date?

  29. I swelled the most with our oldest girl, but walking all over a seminary campus when 8 months pregnant may not have been the best choice. :)

  30. I swelled with my third pregnancy. I’ve had four (three girls and the fourth was a boy). It didn’t indicate gender for me. I think swelling might indicate personality, lol. My third girl is a doozy! She oozes dramatic personality! I’m hoping you are having a boy because I just think your boy needs a brother. Then it will be “The boys” instead of “The boy”.

  31. Well…I have had six pregnancies (7 kids…twins), 3 boys and 4 girls. I swelled with several no matter the gender. I think that the swelling was worse for the last three. Not only was I older, but I was on my feet running after kids more than when I was younger. So….who knows!

  32. Only had major swelling with final pregnancy-a boy! Others are two girls and one boy. Sorry I’m not much help!

  33. I have 3 kids. My first 2 were girls and I didn’t swell with them. My last baby turned out to be a boy and I swelled horribly with him. I was so miserable. I smile everytime I see you call your son “the boy”. That is exactly what we call our son. His sisters run around yelling “BOY! BOY! Come here!” LOL.

  34. I have three girls, and I had swollen feet with all of them, but the worst was with my first. She was born in Sept. though, and I had to go through the whole summer, so I always wondered if that was why. No boys, so I can’t compare.

  35. I never really had any swelling with any of our children. Especially not enough to notice any difference between the boy and the girls.

  36. I have all girls and I have never swelled during pregnancy. So could be. If this is true i’m having another girl this time.

  37. I’m in the 3rd trimester of my 7th pregnancy and so far so good as far as swelling goes. I swelled badly with my first two children (both girls) but had zero morning sickness. Those that I had horrid morning sickness with (all the rest for the most part - boys and girls LOL) I had no swelling.

Maybe that’s the correlation! Running to the potty all the time keeps water from pooling in the feet!

    Blessings, Dawn

  38. 5 boys and 3 girls here… I’ve seen the swelling of my feet more related to hot weather than to gender.

  39. My feet were MUCH MORE swollen with my son than with my daughter! I had to borrow bigger shoes with him, but I could wear my own with her!

  40. With my daughter my feet swelled up terribly, the only shoes I could wear were my flip flops. BUT… she was 2 weeks overdue in a scorcher of a June…… :-P
