I am funny

I know this because today I saw a whole family in the truck next to me burst into laughter one by one as they looked over at me.

Although it was early in the day, my feet were already swelling. As usual, the left was far worse than the right. I like driving when this happens because it’s the easiest way to keep my left foot elevated above my heart. I just slip off my sandal and rest my left foot up on the dash.

Very comfy and highly effective.

And apparently very funny looking.

As the truck pulled up next to me, I saw one passenger look over and burst into laughter. He tapped the shoulder of the woman next to him, and she stared wide-eyed before the laughter set in. The driver looked at them like they were nuts, then glanced my way. He felt the same as they did. The truck was nearly rocking with their merriment.

I thought briefly about lowering my foot to a more dignified position, then decided that I would rather bring joy to onlookers. I was obviously the high point of their day; why should I let my own pride so selfishly take that away from them?

  1. That’s hilarious!!! I wholeheartedly agree……you ARE funny!

  2. How do you drive like that? If you were to get in a wreck, what kind of extraction would be necessary? I can just SEE the look on the firemen’s faces: yeah, we got a pregnant woman that looks like a pretzel, bring the jaws of life!! LOL!

  3. That’s what I like about you. You’re a giver. :-)

  4. I’m impressed that you are that flexible, even when you’re pregnant!

Funny and adorable? Your husband’s a lucky man.

  5. Well! That made ME laugh out loud! :-)

  6. Ok, I’m having so much trouble visualizing this. You were DRIVING

  7. (I wasn’t finished when I accidentally hit the button.)

…with your foot up on the dashboard? Not riding, but driving?!? While 9 months pregnant? Your LEFT foot? How in the world was there room?

And did they see how pregnant you are, too, or was it just the foot alone that was cracking them up?

You missed your calling as a contortionist. :)

  8. I, too, am absolutely mystified how on earth you could pull that off being as far along as you are. Please clarify: YOU were DRIVING? Or were you a passenger?

  9. Oh goodness, that is hilarious!!

  10. We cracked people up just going to the grocery store last night - all 8 of us in single file down the isles gave joy to many.

  11. I know exactly what you were doing, since I used to do it too! That is, until the day my sister, who also did it, got in a wreck and found her foot had gone through the dash into the engine block! Please be very careful! :)

  12. Well, I for one, am glad you don’t drive a stick shift, because that would just be hysterical. Up goes the pregnant leg, down goes the leg to press the clutch…

  13. You MUST post a picture! MUST!

  14. Oh. My. Goodness. I am usually just a lurker (I love your blog and your pictures!) but i just had to leave a comment. You have managed to actually make me laugh hard enough to wet my pants! Ok, I agree that post-childbirth that feat is a bit easier, but still…I am laughing and drying off at the same time. You go girl! Praying for (and oddly looking forward to) your live-blogged birth!

I love your perspective on it! Thanks for giving laughter!
