6yo math
Posted on June 17th, 2008 by kimc
Becca was doing her math and came across this story problem:
I have 7 pencils.
I want 16 pencils.
How many more pencils do I need?
Her answer? None. Why would anybody need more pencils when they already have 7?
Good girl. But I did scratch out the word need and replace it with want, then required her to finish the problem.

That girl deserves ice cream out! And, the 16 unneeded pencils.
LOL, that’s really cute.
Super-nice girl!!!
Ha, that’s the way my 13 y/o son answered his math problems this year, with answers such as, why do you need to know, or in the case above, he’d have said, a lot more pencils! Or he’d have said, I don’t need anymore, I’m happy with the ones I have!
Genius!
Thanks for sharing.

Cute! Here the problem would be “I had 7 pencils and now I only have one, where are all the other pencils?”
I’m still working on solving that problem, lol.
That is so funny! Today I was grading my second graders work and he had something very similar, I just love kids:-) Bless you as you near the end of your pregnancy…
