That “anytime” feeling

Vision Forum Deal of the Day: save 40-90%!

I have mentioned in the past that I always feel like labor is imminent for 2 weeks before I go into labor. It’s a rather specific and consistent symptom for me, one that I strongly suspect is hormonal.

My official duedate is two weeks from tomorrow. I’ve been having false labor nearly every evening and every morning, and in spite of the fact that I fully expect to go a week late (since I was 8 days late last time) and possibly 2 or 3 weeks late (since my duedate is just an estimate anyway) – in spite of all this, I find myself thinking of labor all the time. I’m also very tempted to wrap up several small projects around the house, and get the box of birth supplies to see what I need to buy, and dig out the newborn clothes.

Did I mention that last night I bought 2 packages of teeny tiny adorable newborn diapers?

Did I also mention that I would desperately love to deliver right on my duedate, which happens to be the birthday of our son and my mom and my little nephew?

I’m not sure this is that old “anytime feeling.”  It could just be natural eagerness because the duedate is so fast approaching.  It’s so easy to second-guess myself in situations like this.

Am I crazy to hold out hope?

I think you’d better get those birth supplies in order! My first was 12 days “late” and I was expecting my second to follow suit…..but she decided to break my water and come 6 days early. Third was 9 days late and induced. You just never know!
I love the newborn diapers too…..for the week my kids fit in them, anyways. :)

I completely understand the feeling. I just delivered #7 on 5/9, he was due 4/30. I began serious preparations at about 38 weeks. Absolutely, go through your birth supplies box and start washing those baby clothes. It will give you something birth related to do while you are waiting to tip over the edge into “real” labor. I ran out of birth related things to do and got down to some serious, obsessive nesting. My kids were vacuuming the popcorn ceilings before the baby finally came. Each night I wanted the house perfectly clean “Just in case tonight is the night”. Who wants the midwives to arrive to a pile of dirty dishes?

Oh, I love those itty bitty diapers…

I will hope with you for an on-date baby. :-)

I only had one child (my 4th daughter) who fit into the newborn diapers, and that wasw only because she lost quite a bit of weight the first couple days! At our house those are doll diapers only! Can’t wait to read about your new arrival! Prayers for an easy (and prepared) delivery!

Bless you Kim as you prepare for this exciting time in your life! I am so happy that you will soon be holding your precious little baby. No, you are not crazy to hold out hope:-)

I don’t think you’re crazy to hope for a particular date. My dh really wanted our littlest guy to be born on May 5th so we could celebrate with chips, salsa, and Corona every year hereafter and lo and behold, that’s when he was born. I couldn’t believe it!

  7. Susan adds her thoughts::

Oh my I know exactly what you are saying. I start feeling that way at 36 weeks. And then by the time I hit 38 weeks I feel like the baby is never going to come. I have 3 months left and feel like I have an eternity. Can’t wait to hear about your new little bundle.
    God Bless you, Susan

To be honest, I don’t remember much of how I felt before I had my kids. It has been almost 6 years ago. :( But I still have some of those newborn diapers and they couldn’t use.

I am sure everything will come alright Kim :)

God bless you and your family.

my last one was 2 weeks early (i knew the exact date) and was 10# 6oz… takes after his big brother 10# 11 oz and 23.5″ long (born on due dateish)… I was so glad I went early with this one. they all are different as you know soooooo i just have a feeling you will go on or before the due date this time… i had the most swelling this last time! HUGE FEET for me :)

You and I are racing to the finish line… and I am RIGHT there with you… false labor and all! I have that same “any time” feeling but am also wondering if it’s just my impatience. Funny that you are having that same feeling. I typically don’t make it past 37 weeks, so for me to be in week 39 is just a miracle in itself… weird! :) Praying for you, Kim!

I also get that feeling a while before the baby actually comes. I think about every feeling I have, “Is this it?” Time practice contractions every night for at least a week. I felt like I was going crazy when I had my last baby with all the “This could be it” anticipation, even though she was my fifth and I thought surely by now I would know when it was for real. I’m glad I’m not the only person who feels like that (not that I’m saying you are as bad about it as I have been…).

I absolutely can’t wait until you start blogging about the labor/birth. It will be so fun to follow! I might start to get a little envious that you’re holding your little one and I’ll have to wait a little while….oh, well. I also can’t wait to see if you are having a boy or girl….fun, fun!

    Take care,
    Angela :)

I am with you! Most of mine have been late. Benjamin completely shocked me by coming on his due date. I have that false labor stuff, too. Very frustrating. I’m praying for you! Gotta love the teensy newborn diapers and the smell of baby clothes. Ahhhh!!!!
