My real life friend Steph asked,
Hey, Kim! I hope you can help me with a suggestion. I like the idea of your Super Mom vitamins, and I desperately need something that can provide more energy. But I’ve never been able to swallow large pills. Do you know of any good ones that are comparable, but small? I’m talking the size of a Tylenol or so; that’s about as big as I can get down! If you don’t know of any, do you think you could ask your readers?Your wimpy friend (in more ways than one),Steph
All the advice I can offer is that I’ve heard of some doctors recommending a children’s chewable vitamin for moms too “wimpy” to swallow the standard horse pill. Does anyone else have a more sophisticated suggestion? Or a favorite flavor? I like the purple ones myself…

I have a favorite flavor. LOL. I could usually get down my prenatal vitamins fine but for some reason when I am not pregnant adult vitamins make me sick. I will spend my whole morning in the bathroom. So now I take my kids Flintstones vitamins. They work great for me. Oh yea..I like the pink ones.:)
Strawberry jam (or other jam, NOT jelly) with the vitamin crushed up. The sugar kind of defeats the purpose of taking something to make you healthier, but it’s WAY easier to swallow! That’s how my sister takes even tylenol because she simply cannot swallow pills. The only pills she puts in her mouth whole are the ones that are chewable, because it just doesn’t work for her otherwise.
Pill grinders. You can pulverize any non-time-release pill and just put it in juice.
Julie from the old paths family farm makes her own…..

she could make the smallest-sized capsules & take more of them….
If you really want to try the SuperMom vitamins, there is an option.
In the past I have had to crush pills between two spoons or in a mortar and pestle and mix it with honey….
A bit of work, but if you have to get it down it certainly helps!
Also, I think they are available in capsule form which MIGHT be able to be dissolved in a hot beverage…
I take liquid vitamins. Whole food liquid vitamins to be specific. Your body absorbs more from the liquid than the pills and it is much easier to swallow.
I have a hard time with pills, too.
Just crush it and cover it with applesauce. It goes right down! That’s how we gave medication to the elderly residents at the nursing home I worked in.
The liquid vitamins sound pretty interesting! My doctor recommended just taking a children’s chewable also. You could add vitamin B-12 to it also, they come in yummy chewable forms.
Supermom also makes capsules, so you take 4 of these smaller ones a day instead of the 2 large tablets. Look for “Supermom 240″ – the downside is it’s a 2 month supply instead of 3 month. (You can see the capsules in the picture).

I take Now Special Two 240, which are identical to the Supermom capsules:

I use a pill splitter (costs about $4) and cut them as much as I need to.

They actually sell a smaller version of the great green horse pill. If you go to their website you can see it’s in a capsule form.
Childrens Gummy Vitamins are the absolute best.
Just dont take double the amount (would be 4) take 3.
I take flinstones. I have a hard time swallowing also. Just try to eat really well also.
As long as this is not a time-release capsule, crushing and mixing in a favorite food would be preferable to trying to get a smaller multi or a chewable to do the job of an adult multi, especially one like Super Mom which has so much”extra” in it.
Jam, applesauce, even chocolate syrup. Just enough to make it go down, and then follow with 120 cc of preferred beverage.
I also have a time swallowing and when I was pregnant my midwife prescribed for me a vitamin called Natachew. It does have the hassle of being a Rx but I thought I would offer it as a suggestion.
I took Juice Plus during my last pregnancy, and it literally made the difference between me being able to function or not. I still didn’t have overflowing, abundant amounts of energy, but they DEFINITELY helped. I don’ sell them, but it would be easy to find someone that does.
I probably should have added that they are about the size of a tylenol. In capsule form. They sell gummies as well. I took the adult capsules, and took two of each every morning. It would probably be better to take them am/pm, but I always forget at night.
Hello Kim,
I just read your post and thought it might be helpful to send the following suggestion: large pills are easier swallowed if you first take a bite of bread. Chew it and just before you swallow it, you put the pill in your mouth and both the bite and the pill will go down
.
easily, since your gullet will adjust itself to the size of what is in your mouth and is to be swallowed (in this case the bite of bread, which is larger than the pill). Another advantage of this method is, that you hardly won’t notice the pill being swallowed (in contrast
with swallowing it with water alone). It might work as well with a large draught of water, putting the pill in your mouth just before you swallow the gulp of water, but that’s less favorite with me
Hope this helped.
Many blessings,

If you go to the link you can see the ingredients. They have barley, wheatgrass, spirulina, sea veggies, normal veggies, etc… The pill is the size of a normal capsule. You take 3 a day.
These don’t have calcium so I also take Calcium Lactate pills.
If I have to take a big pill I usually take it with my hot coffee in the morning. Something about the warm makes it go down better! Happy Swollowing!
A quick warning on children’s multi-vitamins – they are very high in Vitamin A. That’s great for growing kids, but can be dangerous for pregnant women. Vitamin A is NOT water soluble, so if you have too much of it, your body won’t be able to flush it out when you pee. Your pharmacist can explain it to you, since they usually know a lot more about meds and supplements than doctors do.
