Remember the Paperback Swap giveaway? We did this once before and it was a lot of fun, so I’m ready to do it again. I learned of some great books that I had never heard of when you all posted your choices, and I’ve received many of them from PBS since then.
I’ll also confess that we got loads of free books for referring all the people who decided to join Paperback Swap and we’re low on credits. Must…have…books!
According to PBS, we’ve received 144 free books of our choice so far, including:
- Before and After Graphics for Business for our budding graphic designer, a $50 book that we were delighted to find for free!
- Animals do the Strangest Things, a title in a favorite series of ours
- many by
- Abigail Adams : Girl of Colonial Days and other titles from another favorite series, Childhood of Famous Americans
- most of the Redwall series by
- Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain
- Calligraphy Alphabets Made Easy
- The Calvin and Hobbes Lazy Sunday Book
- Equiano’s Travels (African Writers Series) – highly recommended, though I wish I had requested an unabridged copy.
…and many, many more! We are also on the waiting list for 200 different titles. When we reach the front of the line for a particular wishlist title and it becomes available, PBS will email us and hold the book for us for up to 48 hours. It’s a great system and we’ve received many books from our wishlist already!

Okay, my boys are really into reading about weather right now and I found: Tornado Alert by Franklyn M. Branley
I know they would LOVE it! We just read a pdf booklet put out by NOAA called Thunderstorms, Tornadoes, and Lightening: Nature’s Most Violent Storms, A Preparedness Guide.
What a strange bunch! How many credits do you get if we join…I am really tempted if I get 2 free credits to start out with!!

I would probably choose the old book Misty and Me. I read it so long ago when I was about 8 and loved it. I looked for it to read aloud to my daughter, but it is out of print!
