Bits and pieces

Recent news that didn’t make the headlines:

  • The Yorkie had pups.  They’re cute and tiny but my capitalist children see only little dollar signs - 3 of them, to be specific.  They pooled their savings over a year ago to buy the mama Yorkie.  Since then they waited many long months, walked her thousands of times, and cleaned up countless puddles.  Now they are breathing a sigh of relief to be so near recouping their investment.
  • Hubby and I had our 17th wedding anniversary.  It was on this day.  The poor guy.
  • We went to Seaworld for our first time ever, thanks to a very generous gift from a very generous gift-er.  It, too, was on this day.  What can I say?  On the bright  side, there is a picture of certain parties on the roller coaster that makes it all worth it.  Who wants to see it?  Can you guess who is in the photo?  No fair telling if you already saw it.
  • The kids have recently found 2 black widows while getting the week’s trash together to set out for the trashman on Tuesdays.  They are now paying each other $5 to get out of the job.  Even at that price, it’s hard to find a taker.
  • Bethany is definitely in her 6-week-old growth spurt.  The little beanpole gained over 11 ounces last week.  The problem is she’s stretching out as fast as she’s filling in, so you hardly notice the chub in her cheeks and belly.
  • Our widowed swallow found a new mate and rebuilt the nest.  And the babies got swallowed again.  The same way, by a culprit that bore a striking resemblance to the last one.  Like the last swallower-of-swallows, he lost his head.  This time hubby was the Master of Ceremonies.
  • I finished reading my Bible again.  This was only the second time in my life that I have read it from cover to cover, but 2 is better than none - and now I can start again!
  • August has been the month of broken appliances.  Already, the iron, oven and coffemaker died sudden, mysterious and unexpected deaths.  The dryer is gasping out its last breaths.  And hubby’s work car has been parked for weeks.  Just a few short weeks after we paid for a new transmission, the engine may be bad.  We don’t know yet but I am daily thankful for whoever invented carpooling.  Rather than driving over 100 miles/day in our 15 passenger van, hubby has the option of riding to work with my brother-in-law who lives 1/2 mile away.  It’s an option he exercises nearly every day.
  • We’ll be at the  homeschool conference in Plano, TX on August 22/23.  We’ll be manning womaning girling the Vision Forum booth, so come see us!  I promise not to be pregnant and scowling this time.

Maybe this wasn’t such a good idea.  Now I’ll be straining for ideas to post about for the rest of the week.  Or maybe something new will break.  In the absence of new breakage, are there any items above that you want me to elaborate upon?

  1. Ok, as a theme park and roller coaster enthusiast (seriously, look at my track record http://www.coasterfanatics.com/sec_members/member_ridelist.asp?id=104879 ), I HAVE to see this picture of which you speak.

  2. Even here in Alabama we’ve had plenty of snakes. I think we are up to seven or eight for this summer, thankfully mostly rat snakes. Yesterday’s event was 10 year old found a snake and ran in. Then 16 year old went out with the twelve gauge only to find the snake well dead. The dog had taken care of it for us. Whew.

  3. Did the roller-coaster photo get posted? I didn’t see it. I mean I SAW it, but not on the blog. Yikes! What a pic.!

  4. WHY didn’t you post the picture?! I’m sure it will be a hit! :-)

Happy late anniversary…our 17th is the 18th of this month!

And Seaworld! How cool! Post the picture!

  5. lol– maybe you should use this as an anchor post, and post detailed versions of some of these if you’re hard up for ideas!

How hard is it to kill black widows anyway?

  6. Oh! We might be at the Plano conference. Hope to meet you there!

  7. Hi! I’ve never commented before, but have been enjoying reading your blog for a few months. How about posting some wedding pictures in honor of your anniversary?

  8. Actually, I have a question about one of the above items. You mentioned celebrating your 17th anniversary. My oldest daughter, Britta, was standing here and wondered when Deanna’s birthday was. We searched for her birthday post. It was on July 9th and said she was 15 and she was born just shy of your 1st anniversary. So, wouldn’t you be celebrating your 16th anniversary? Or, is she actually 16 now? Maybe I’m way confused or something….

The roller coaster picture on facebook was hilarious, btw…. :)

  9. Hey! I remeber when Perry bought you that iron. It was a pretty spiffy iron. It could not be more than a year or two old, and it up and quit on you?!

Yes, please post the roller coaster picture! We love Sea World. We have not been in over 5 years. Time to go again!

  10. Kim,

Did ya’ll go to Sea World on August 2nd? That would be crazy if you did, because I was there on that day too! And actually, I think I remember thinking about ya’ll that day because I knew that your family lives in the San Antonio area. What a coincidence.

My name is Rachel, by the way. I’ve been reading your blog for awhile but I don’t think I have ever commented. We are friends on facebook, though. :)

  11. Tell us more about Sea World. Did you ALL go? Did people stare at you everywhere you went? Did you all wear the same color? We do that so that “we can all find us.” That is probably why people stare.

  12. i posted some ovarian guilt photos…

  13. ooopppps this is the one

  14. We need to see pictures of the new puppies and, of course, more pictures of Bethany!!!

  15. Krista,
That’s a great idea - I’ll see if I can get one of the kids to scan in some old photos today!

    Angela,
You’re right. Can you see me blushing here? 16 years, not 17. Married in ‘92. Bad Kim. And hubby knew - or thought he did, but took my word for it when I posted that.

  16. Rachel,
We were there on Friday, August 1, so we missed you by a day. What brought you to San Antonio?

  17. We should be at the Plano HS fair. I hope to see you there.

  18. It would be so neat to go to a HS fair..but that weekend is the one in which I am extremely short on rides anywhere, so even though I live in the Dallas area, I will have no way to get to Plano! Ah well..
