GOTW: World’s Greatest Stories CDs

First of all, GOTW stands for Giveaway Of The Week.  Call me lazy because I don’t feel like typing it all, or call me ambitious because the acronym suggests that I will, indeed, persevere in offering a giveaway every week.  I recommend the latter, because I never said the giveaways would be random.  You do want to stay on my good side, don’t you?

Moving on…

If you haven’t seen George Sarris live, you’re really missing out.  Mr. Sarris recites - no, performs extensive passages of Scripture using a scarf as his only prop.  Most of his selections are several chapters long, memorized word for word from either the NIV or the KJV.

I’ve posted before about our captivation with his dramatic storytelling.  This man makes the KJV exciting and understandable to a 2yo, and that takes real talent.  In fact, a year after seeing Mr. Sarris our children still re-enact portions of his performance, remembering word for word what they saw and heard.

But I’m not telling you this to make you jealous.  I’m telling you because Mr. Sarris also offers CDs of his stories - God’s stories, that is. Needless to say, we have a full set of his CDs.  I posted a more complete review of his CDs on an old blog of mine, but be forewarned: that blog is ug-leeee. The cute header and other graphics mysteriously disappeared and I didn’t care enough to go looking for them.  Still interested?  Here’s the review.  Have at it, but don’t forget to come back for the drawing.

We recently loaned our van to some friends and left a George Sarris CD in the player.  They were so impressed that within days, they had bought a complete set of their own.  I’ll bet you’d like to have one of your own, wouldn’t you?  Listen to a sample from the book of Daniel or visit the store to hear more samples.  While you’re in the store, be sure to notice the prices on the CDs.  Not bad, huh?

    My kids love books on tape in the car, so do I, it keeps them occupied instead of antagonizing each other! I would definitely pick “The Prophets” to start with, my 8 yo son loves all of those stories, as does the 13 yo, but he’s a little less expressive!

    I’ve never heard of George Sarris, now after hearing him….we got to have it. We love the Jonathan Parker series and I know that we like this as well. I think I’d want to start my kiddos out with Volume 6, Defeating Giants. We are taking a 6 hour trip to Memphis at the end of September. This would be great to keep them occupied, filling their minds with the Word.

    Mr. Sarris’s ministry is wonderful and makes the Scripture “come alive”, so to speak. We saw him perform at the San Antonio Independent Christian Film Festival. Quite remarkable!

    We’d love to have Vol 3 - Beginnings would be my choice since our church is studying and memorizing Genesis.

    I have birthday wishlists for my kids at amazon, but have only been able to “wish’ for items sold at amazon. You know how you put “sub with bloglines” into your favorites…well Amazon.com now does that with wishlists. With the “add to wishlist” button, I can add an item from any online store to my amazon wishlist.

    I would love to have the Volume 2 set “The Life of Christ”. We use the Weaver curriculum homeschooling our 4 children and this year we’ll be in Vol. 5 (which is all about the life of Christ! :o) It would be such a blessing to see the scriptures as well as school come alive for them!

He adores everything associated with Lions, so he obviously selected Vol 1 The Prophets (with the lion featured on the front, LOL).     I remember listening to some of the episodes from Volume 1 years ago! Mr. Sarris is talented and certainly makes the passages more memorable.

    If I win, I’d like to choose Volume 3–Beginnings. It’s never too early to begin stocking up for my future family; of course, my current family would enjoy these, too!

    It’s been MANY years since our family saw Mr. Sarris in person. His presentation was impressive! I’m sure we even purchased some of the cassettes at that time, but they’re long gone.     Wow I have never heard of these before! They look GREAT. I had a really hard time picking one. First I thought the prophets would be it but then I saw the life of Christ and thought how wonderful it would be for them to experence that and really know how wonderful he is. Then… I saw defeating giants! My sons would LOVE this!! It would be something they would get so involved in, playing along and learning about the bible at the same time. So I am going to go with defeating giants, but truth be told I might just end up buying them ALL for christmas this year!
