Victories: Moments Large and Small Which Define Christian Parenthood

Although my husband works at Vision Forum and we have access to most or all of the messages published in-house, I rarely hear Doug Phillips give a message live.  Over the weekend, at hubby’s urging, I slipped out of the booth at the Plano homeschool convention to listen to his session on Victories.

I was wowed.  I took notes - mental notes, because I came totally unprepared.  Those of you who know me will understand how amazing it is that I actually remember anything. He began with an outline of 10 different types of victories that we, as parents, need to be aware of.

Unfortunately, he only made it through 7 points before running out of time.  I only remember 5 of the points, but remembering 5 out of 7 just might qualify as a victory of my own.  But I’m not worried - I have the message on CD, so I can listen over and over.  The title is Victories: Moments Large and Small Which Define Christian Parenthood.

Here are the points that I remember so far:

  1. The nobility of the commonplace - recognizing the beauty of God’s handiwork in day to day life.
  2. The hope of the newborn - seeing the unfolding of God’s plan in the miracle of new life.
  3. The preciousness of childlike faith
  4. The humor of family idiosyncracies - this one was demonstrated by a photo of my husband and son, dressed alike in their Easter clothes.
  5. The blessing of the family table

Mr. Phillips illustrated each point with photos of his family and friends, and I would like to do the same.
Would anyone care to join me in posting photos that demonstrate the nobility of the commonplace?  I’m not quite sure where to start, but am looking forward to the exercise.  How about we start here next week?  That will give all of us some time to think it over.

  5. Kim,
It’s an excellent CD. My children loved hearing about the idiosyncracies of Mr. Phillips family.
I think it made his family a little more “normal”. LOL!!

I’ve recommended it to lots of families in our church!
    Blessings,
    Becki
