Boycotts work!
There was some whooping and hollering in our house just now, when the latest email from the AFA hit my inbox. I'm taking the liberty of copying it all right here. Remember our controversial posts about boycotting McDonalds? You can read them here, here and here. Here's the followup.
Great news! Because of AFA supporters like you, McDonald’s has told AFA they will remain neutral in the culture war regarding homosexual marriage. AFA is ending the boycott of McDonald’s. As you know, AFA called for the boycott in May after McDonald’s joined the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC).
McDonald’s said McDonald’s Vice President Richard Ellis has resigned his position on the board of NGLCC and that his seat on the board will not be replaced. McDonald’s also said that the company has no plans to renew their membership in NGLCC when it expires in December. (emphasis mine -- kimc)
In an e-mail to McDonald’s franchised owners the company said, “It is our policy to not be involved in political and social issues. McDonald’s remains neutral on same sex marriage or any ‘homosexual agenda’ as defined by the American Family Association.”
We appreciate the decision by McDonald’s to no longer support political activity by homosexual activist organizations. You might want to thank your local McDonald’s manager.
Golden Arches, here I come. After all, we need to go out of our way to show our support of their decision, right?

have you done research on this to verify? I wouldn’t just take an email for what it says and it being truth
Good for McDonalds. Neutrality is fine.
Now, what’s the over/under on % of the next 50 posts that say, among other things, “we don’t go to McDonalds anyway b/c it’s unhealthy”.
My guess is 46%. Though my posting this may drive it down a bit.

The email came directly from the AFA, but the story has also been picked up by Fox News, and can be verified by checking the board of directors page at the NGLCC, if you dare. I just did, and McD’s is no longer on the list.
I got the AFA alert as well. I wouldn’t fool myself that they’re now some sorta Jesus-friendly place… but then again, hardly any companies really are. I think this is a business and they just gauge which way they think the wind is blowing and follow that. I’m not being critical of the boycott; quite the contrary. I guess I am sadly noting that in another 10 years there may not be enough people to influence corporate decisions like this.
Unless there’s revival. If there is, I’d be lovin’ it. LOL
oh, i am glad but now during this pregnancy i just got the green light for double cheese burgs! …. OUCH
Hooray! That’s cool. McDonalds is one of the few cheap places over here, and they ain’t THAT cheap.
So is WalMart next, or have we given up hope of them getting out of the culture war?
I’d definately say you HAVE to show your support of their decsion with some burgers for dinner!

I’m pleased that we made a difference. I’m also pleased that because McD’s is the primary fast food restaraunt in our area (particularly being the only one with a dollar menu) we have waaay cut back on our fast food trips since the boycott.
While I think we’re all healthier for it, my pregnant mind sometimes just wants some of those fries!
