He didn’t throw the first punch…
…but he threw the last one.
Last night, we got together with much of my extended family: My parents, my own household, a couple of random in-laws and outlaws, 8 of my sibs with their respective spouses, friends-of-the-opposite-sex, and a plethora of children.
Perry buddied up with his cousin Rian, who is exactly one year older - they share a birthday. They ran around, played and tustled in the grass.
Then Rian punched Perry right in the nose. The force knocked him down, and he stifled a few quick tears. But Perry got up with a bloody nose, put up both fists (where did he learn that?!) and punched his bigger cousin right back.

Rian went down this time, and was enraged to find Perry sitting on his chest. That’s my boy.
When it was all over, Perry offered Rian his hand, all grudges forgotten. That’s my man.
Today, each time he reenacts the story, Rian is his best friend.

Oh dear! Boys will be boys, huh?!
Boy,
I’m proud of you! Willing to defend, and to forgive.
Awww . . . how proud you must be!
We visited some friends in OK. There son is 5mo *younger* than ours. He would bite my Samuel soooo hard - we’re talking purple bruises a week later, almost bleeding! I was always so proud that my son never bit back - though a few times he defended himself with pushing the other boy away and knocking him into the dirt on his backside! By the time we left, I think the younger boy was afraid to bite my son.
Suprisingly, we have very little -almost no- physical interaction between brothers at home. But when it comes to strangers knocking him around . . . he won’t start it but he’ll finish it, too.
Way to go, Boy!
This makes up for the dentist office fiasco, wouldn’t you think?
Hi Kim! He is so cute and certainly all boy!
I’m coming out of lurkdom to let you know that I’ve given you an award. Come by my blog and read all about it!
Blessings,
Nancy
I had to giggle when I read “Where did he learn that?” That’s his natural God-given instinct to protect himself. Praise God he is being raised to be a boy and those instincts aren’t being surpressed by a messed up world that doesn’t believe in boys being boys.
