If you know me, I never forward stuff, but this one has me intrigued.  I received the email below from my brother-in-law.  His wife is expecting their first child soon, so they are obviously looking into child-rearing methods.  We’re all for spanking, but this technique has merit too.  I can see how this might work.  If you do something like this in your household, let us know how it works for you.

Tough Love vs. Spanking

Most of America ‘s populace think it improper
to spank children, so I have tried other methods
to control my kids when they have one of ‘those moments.’

One that I found effective is for me to just take
the child for a car ride and talk.

Some say it’s the vibration from the car, others
say it’s the time away from any distractions such as TV, Video Games, Computer, IPod, etc.

Either way, my kids usually calm down and stop misbehaving after our car ride together.

I’ve included a photo below of one of my sessions with
my son, in case you would like to use the technique.

Sincerely,
Your Friend

…Mmmm… I’ll let you think when I have my first child ;)
    Greetings from the Old World!

  2. Do you think it could be construed as cruel and unusual punishment if I use this method in my van? The front kinda slopes at a sharp angle towards the road, the smaller Pirates might get scared and the bigger ones would end up actually “touching” the road with their shoes/feet.
Another question, with gas prices being what they are, how long of a “drive” do you take your children for? And at what speed do you find your children becoming repentant?

  6. hilarious!

  7. That’s exactly what I’m doing to my kids.

First off, it’s less physically damaging(unless he/she falls off..then it’s the childs own fault). And secondly, it teaches not only obedience, but also balance, endurance, and basic physics(very educational)!
