Fast food chain McDonald’s (MCD: 54.72, +1.31, +2.45%) will no longer be the subject of a boycott by the American Family Association. In May the AFA called for a boycott of McDonald’s because it joined the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce. But the group, according to a press release, lifted that boycott after McDonald’s said it won’t renew its membership with the NGLCC when it expires in December and that its vice president Richard Ellis has resigned from the NGLCC board. Officials at McDonalds and the NGLCC did not return calls for comment. According to the AFA press release, McDonald’s said in an e-mail to its franchise owners that “it is our policy to not be involved in political and social issues. McDonald’s remains neutral on same sex marriage or any ‘homosexual agenda’ as defined by the American Family Association.” NGLCC is a nonprofit organization created to expand economic opportunities for the LGBT business community.
