I feel the need to apologize to our readers. Ours has not traditionally been a political blog, but political issues are not limited to the political sphere. As Christians, we believe that God’s Word speaks to every area of life. Just as we look to His Word for guidance in choosing a spouse or church, so also we look (or ought to look) to the Bible to answer the question of who we choose to rule over us in the civil sphere. This is not a neutral realm outside of His power, influence, or attention span. This is part of Christian living.
This is called being consistent.
Ok, that was snarky of me, but it really needs to be said.
The liberal media recognizes the apparent inconsistency of evangelical Christians who believe that the home and church ought to be ruled by men but are unwilling to apply the same standard in a third area.
I’ve heard the arguments and the comparisons to Esther, Deborah and others, and I just don’t buy it. I don’t think the media does either.
The L.A. Times has published a good article on the subject.
To some evangelicals, Palin’s career violates biblical teachings

thank you for standing for truth and not giving way to the newest christian fad of “tolerance”. I believe tolerance will eventually destroy the church as you and I know it. If tolerance does not destroy the church it definately will have its hay day as it is in the “emergent church” already!
Thank you, as always, for speaking the truth, even when it is unpopular.
Just to show you how thankful I am, I’m letting you know that “You’ve Been Tagged!”

Um what’s snarky?
Snarky: sarcastic and irreverent, usually out of irritation

Thanks never heard that one before.
For once I can agree. I would never let my baby at home with Daddy at such a young age to run off and be Vice President.
Kim & Perry:
When you are very consistent (or heck, even making a moderate attempt at it….) it can serve as a sign for others who are not yet there.
We recall being challenged by other Christians who were more consistent at an earlier time than we were.
It gave us something to ‘shoot for’.
I think politics is an area where Satan has gained a ‘stronghold’ over most Christians.
His ‘stronghold’ is our idolatry.
It seems to have to do with us Christians feeling insecure, therefore coveting a ‘seat at the table’, even at the cost of forsaking God’s Principles.
[Forgive me if I overreach here: but wouldn’t the Biblical prophets have preferred to take an ax & make firewood out of the ‘table’, rather than covet a seat at it ?)
Our American predillection for ‘winning, at all costs…’ has us treating the election like a horse race, trying to pick a winner.
Instead, we should think of our votes as a statement of who we are, what are our deepest felt & most cherished beliefs before the LORD, and the practical application of them to society.
To fail to do this is shortsighted and we end up trading our Liberty for Security…..and end up deserving neither (to paraphrase Benjamin Franklin).
We became convicted that one mistake we made in voting for the lesser of two evils was trying to figure out our duty, by forecasting results.
In so doing, Christans are trying to ‘insure outcomes’ – which is not wrong in every instance of our lives, but in this case, it makes us mis-calculate our duties.
We must not try to take God’s job from Him – He’s the One who ‘insures outcomes’.
Our duty is to vote for Godly & Wise men, period.
To try to assess their fitness for office on the sole measure of their chances of winning, is to sublimate Biblical ethics to mere pragmatism.
I’m glad the Founding Fathers focused on their duty, regardless of probable outcomes. Had they not done so, we’d have never won our Independance from Britain.
John Quincy Adams put it simply:
“Duty is ours, the results are God’s”
God bless you even if your stand isn’t appreciated by the broad majority of Christians.

I just found this article on LewRockwell.com and it nails the fundamental disconnect of Principle that prevents us Christians from voting consistently.

Most Americans may not be aware, but Canada has it federal election happening on October 14th – and my husband and I have been wrestling with where our duty lies.
David, are saying your not voting at all if there is NO godly or wise man to vote for? That is pretty well where we are at in our discussions on our vote. No political party represents God in anyway, shape or form – so why would I put my support behind them by voting?
Just curious as to how the readers here may view this.
Hi Kim from Canada:
Great question. IF there was no Godly or wise man to choose from, then I would not cast a vote, as I cannot give my approval to that which is evil.
To send this message, I think all ballots should have a selection by default that states “none of the above”, so that citizens can register their disapproval of the candidates they are offered.
If things get bad enough, then “NONE OF THE ABOVE” wins the election, takes office, and we get a break from government for a season. What a concept !
But in our case, we do have Dr. Chuck Baldwin of the Constitution Party to vote for. He’s a fine Christian man (a baptist pastor in fact), very wise – really a man in the mold of Founding Fathers. Take a look:
http://www.Baldwin08.com
http://www.ConstitutionParty.com – their platform attributes Providence to Jesus Christ specifically….
(There are other 3rd parties, too, but none we can in good conscience support…..)
We found Deuteronomy 17:15-20 to be an rich passage that outlines the qualifications for a Godly leader, a King or President that follows the LORD.
For a look at Israel choosing their McCain */ Palin [Obama / Biden], refer to I Samuel 8, and the national pain, their loss of Liberties, that Samuel the prophet prophesies they’ll suffer. They choose it anyway. It wasn’t pretty, but it was a comfortable, easy choice at the time.
God help American (& Canadian) Christians to wake up & being voting consistent with our professed Principles, in the LORD.
Hope that explains our view for your consideration.
David B.
* McCain means, interpreted: ‘Son of Cain’
Take a look at that LewRockwell article I linked above for some very sound Scriptural reasoning on this.
