My new widget

Vision Forum Deal of the Day: save 40-90%!

Did you see it in the sidebar?  Don’t let its simplicity fool you.  I put a lot of work into this little little baby.  IT’s my own custom widget to share Vision Forum deals.  Believe it or not, I had to build a new blog to power it!

My new VF Deals widget will alert Vision Forum fans of new sales, coupons and clearance whenever I find something post-worthy.  You’re welcome to look at mine, but I’m hoping everyone in the world will want to install it in their own sidebar.  Really.  Please.  Please? Just click on Get Widget (at the bottom of the widget) and you’ll have convenient updates right on your own blog.  And I’ll get a little commission whenever you or one of your readers orders through it.  Did I mention that part?  Now who wants to be my friend?

Well, if you’re already a Vision Forum affiliate, you’re excused.  And if you’re not but you would like to be one, quit procrastinating.  Like the sneaker people say, just do it.

    Okay, Kim… this is wonderful BUT after checking out this cool widget I see I could have gotten a free mp3 download of a sermon I really wanted to hear at Behemoth YESTERDAY…
    :( A day late and dollar (or $4.95) short as usual.

    Shelly, I’m sorry you missed the one you wanted but keep watching. Behemoth has free downloads every day!

    This is awesome! Are you considering telling us how you made the widget? I would love to make one for my category: “guess the product” where I write out the ingredients for various store bought food items…

    I am impressed!

    Is this a bliget from widgetbox? I am truely inspired!

    I was planning on going to bed, but just popped by here… and I am soooo tired… you have me now thinking…

  5. Andrea adds her thoughts::

    Hey, you could make a frugal hacker widget too!

  6. kimc adds her thoughts::

    Andrea,
    I sure could make a FH widget. That’s a great idea!
    Making it was the easy part – creating a blog for it to feed from was the hard part.
    Do you know if you can create one from a single category? I wondered about that myself…

  7. Andrea adds her thoughts::

    Hey Kim,

    I am soooo tired (your fault ;) ). I did try that very thing since my widget would originate from my one category. First off, you are right, to create the actual widget is peanuts.

    However, my theme does not have feed for each category, so I ended up making one for the whole blog content (which is really not necissary). After a “short” night’s sleep I got to thinking about plugins, surely there are plug-ins which create feeds for each category, one would think…

    So today I am off to find a feed plugin and then it is “easy riding” from there on out… but the idea of feeding my category feed to another blog (can that also be a wordpress/blogspot blog or do I have to own it?) which is open for others to add their own product ingredients is a very attractive idea…

    And a great way to “spread the word” about your own blog! Excellent idea, Kim, and thanks so much for sharing with us!

    Hi Kim, this doesn’t directly involve this post,though we definitely have our share of VF products!

    My questions is about homeschooling in TX. My son is only 3.5 so we have some time to figure out the legal issues, but I definitely want to know what is in store for us. If I understand correctly, we need to register as a private school. How do you go about doing this?

    Also, my son just started reading. Do you have an recommendations for preschool homeschooling? I don’t see any reason to wait until the magical age of 5 to start teaching, especially since he’s already reading. So far I’ve used Barbara Curtis’ Mommy Teach Me and Mommy Teach Me to Read, which I like very much. However, I would also love to find something a bit more structured. What do you suggest for the young’ins?

    Thanks!

    Thanks Kim for the inspiration!
