Princess Adelina – reviews wanted

Our family's book, Princess Adelina, is selling like hotcakes at Vision Forum right now.  I also noticed that it's available from CBD.

Princess Adelina is based on a true story.  Adelina, the daughter of Irish missionaries in 8th century Germany, catches the eye of the young pagan ruler and is pressed into marriage.  This is the account of her courageous struggles among the heathen, her tireless ministry to those around her, and her ceaseless prayers for her unbelieving spouse.   More than that, it is the story of Adelina's unwavering faith in God and her commitment to serve Him, His kind providence toward her and the unfolding of His plan at that point in history.

I love this story and was excited to rediscover it because so many books with female heroines are heavily infected with feminism.  There is not a hint of that in the story of Adelina.  She was strong, courageous and outspoken, yet utterly feminine and dedicated to acting within her Biblical role.  That balance can be hard to find, and it is refreshing to find such an example for our daughters in ancient church history.

If you have ordered and read Princess Adelina, would you please consider writing a brief review for  CBD since they don't have any info posted about it yet?  You can submit your review here.

I would also love to have your review for a website we are setting up.  If you get a fair amount of traffic and are willing to post about it on your own site I might be able to sweet-talk somebody into sending you a free or deeply discounted review copy.  Just let me know in the comments if you are interested!

  1. What age group is this for? I have a 10 1/2 yo.

  2. That’s cool Kim. The book sounds wonderful.

So, define “fair amount of traffic”… :)

  3. Jeanie,
If you are going to read it aloud, I would recommend it for 8 and up, though every child is different.
For independent reading, I think 10 or 12 and up, depending upon the child’s reading ability.

    Janel,
I was afraid somebody would ask that. I was being purposely vague because I don’t know. :)
I’ll just give a list of suggested recipients to The Powers That Be and see what they say. I’ll add you to the list, if you’re interested!

  4. Hurray for Adelina!

    Hurray for the new website.

  5. I am not sure that my readership is high enough, but I would love to be considered to review a copy for my blog.

We love to read around here, and I am directing my reading to previewing books for our girls as they get older. Books I remember being great as a kid are not so great now that I go back and reread them, so we are definitely on the hunt!

  6. I’d love to read and review it for you, but I have to be honest – I don’t get that much traffic. Eventually I’ll buy it, but right now I already have a box full of books waiting to be gifted to my 9 yr old. I’m glad it’s selling well for you.

  7. I haven’t been blogging that long on blogspot (HSB before), so I doubt I qualify for the traffic. But it’s worth a try. It’s actually grown tremendously in the last month since I’ve been blogging a bit more and added life traffic feed. I really enjoy your blog, VF (considered becoming an affiliate at one time) and I just love your new header! How creative! Keep it up! If you can do it with all your girls I can do it with 4 kids. All my large family friends blog so regularly it puts me to shame! Some days I just determine to do it but after reading their blogs it puts me in the late after midnite frame. LOL! Be blessed, Natalie

  8. Hi….

this is my first time here…came over from Homeschool Blog Awards (congratulations on your nomination ;-)

    Your family is beautiful!

How wonderful that you’ve published a book …it looks delightful. I wish I had already read it, so that I could help you with your review…hope you get some offers.

Can I ask who you used for an editior, my oldest daugher 917) is ready to send a book out to be edited, but we are not having any success with finding one. We have looked through several of the ‘help to publish’ books, but I am reluctant with some of the ‘junk’ they are willing to publish…still even before this stage we need an editor. We are soaking it in prayer of course too.
    Thank you and….God
    bless you;

  9. Have you thought about taping it? We love to have books on cd in the car. With all of the read alouds in school I feel like I am done with reading.

    It sounds neat.

  10. Kimmie,
I emailed you about this, along with a link to a yahoo group that I think will be very helpful to you and your daughter.

  11. B,
We really have considered making it an audiobook – thanks for the encouragement!

  12. Recommend me please…cause either way I’m reading this book.

  13. I would love to review this book on my website for you. I reviewed the Eden String Quartet movie the other week and am looking for something new for a review. I get a decent amount of traffic if you are interested, I would love to hear from you.

    Jennifer

  14. I was wondering about the traffic question too. I would love to review it!

I’m curious about what you mean by “your family’s book”? Are you related to the author?

  15. Jeana,
It’s a very old book that our family rediscovered. We retyped it, edited it, created a few new features and talked Vision Forum into publishing for us.
It was a family project in every sense of the word, with Mom, Dad and several of the children pitching in.

  16. I would be very much interested in reviewing this. I’ve written a number of books reviews in various venues in the past.

  17. Very cool!
