Hubby is the oldest of six children. Last week was the first time that hubby’s entire family has ever been together on Christmas. It was a momentous occasion, and needed to be preserved. Of course, they wanted to include all of the spouses and children as well.
“Listen up, people! It’s picture time! Front and center!”
That’s a total of 22 people, 13 of them children. It’s like herding cats. Have you ever tried that? Have you? HAVE YOU?
Hey, down in front! Pick a place and plant yourself!
You too, Thomas. Like herding cats, I tell you.
Finally, we’re getting somewhere. Um, Ben? In the crazy 8 shirt? Are those your pajamas? Forget I asked. But maybe you could stand behind Thomas? Let’s just get the baby swing out of the foreground.
Right, Ben – just peek out from behind everyone. Perfect! And let’s get rid of that big chair on the right.
And the sippy cups and socks that were under the chair. Hey, where did Thomas go?
Thomas! You needed a sweater? Get back in your place!
Now, set the 2 second delay, hit the button, and RUN.
Oops. 2 seconds is a little faster than I thought. Let’s try that again. I can do this.
Maybe Thomas would be better at this. After all, he played high school football.
Not bad, Thomas, but can you look a little more natural? Like you were standing there all along?
And we’ve got a winner. Merry Christmas, everyone!

thats great! we do this every year at my cousins on Christmas with everyone who is present and it is always a session. alot of grumbling but worth it.
That is so funny that Thomas left to get a sweater! What a fun Christmas!!
Hi. I’m Melody, mom of only 3.
Just wanted to say Merry Christmas and blessed New Year to your family.
I have tried herding cats….. I think that might have been easier than getting 22 people in a picture. . lol (just kidding)
Great pictures and great fun!
i forgot to mention your hubby looks either really annoyed or really tired…….
Wait…so, if there were thirteen children, your husband has four nieces and/or nephews?
I think the total number of cousins on my mom’s side is 24. 9 of them are me and my siblings. Then there’s the 2 great-grandkids, both of whom are older than the youngest grandchild, who is my baby sister…
Amazing, hilarious picture sequence! And it’s amazing you got the last one!
Ha! I especially like the action shots of you running into the photo Kim!! LOL!
Herding cats… yep. And I thought trying to get a good Christmas picture of our family of 10 was bad…
I love it! Good job!
Ahh this picture cracked me up and brought back memories of the first and last time I tried to gather everyone for a photo!
Hi Kim,
What an awesome get together you all must have had. Great photos. Those are lifetime memories. Take care and Happy New Year.
Marie
Great picture and I love how you wrote on your trip. God Bless you for all that driving for a few days. When we drive to Moms (TX to FL) about 14-16 hours I insist on staying 1-2 weeks.
Roxy,
Actually I didn’t remember Thomas leaving to get a sweater. I just noticed it as I was reviewing the photos. But I do remember that people kept disappearing and reappearing, and obviously Thomas was one of them!
Jeanie,
We usually stay much longer, but this was a spur of the moment decision. Hubby had 5 days off (Wednesday – Sunday) so we worked with what we had. It was worth it!
I understand. My Mom’s 60th is coming up and if we get orders to move in June we will try to househunt in March. Her birthday is April and it was a big deal as the kids were in “school” then and taking another long trip was going to be hard. Now that we have decided to home school I guess we can go sooner to househunt if we choose and go that way again in April : )
Love it!!! We were trying to take a picture of all the grandchildren at my Grandmas house, and, well it went something like your experience.
lol.
We have a haard enough time getting my eight kids in a picture together. As long as no one is crying (too much), picking their nose or some other socially unacceptable behavior we call it a little victory.
Hubby looks a little fed up with the whole thing in that last picture.
