If you’re keeping track, we’re not home yet. We stopped in for a 9:00 dinner with the aunts in Fort Worth last night, then hit the road again some time after 10. Very soon we were straining to keep our eyes open, so we decided discretion was the better part of valor and started looking for a cheap affordable hotel. We wanted to get home soon, but not in the eternal way.
The exit we chose had 4 hotels so we pulled into 3 of them, one after another, and asked for their best rate on 2 rooms with 2 beds each. The 3rd was a winner and we decided to forgo the fourth in favor of an extra 15 minutes of sleep. We scored a total of 4 queen size beds for $129 plus tax. They looked more like full size to me, but we were no in mood to complain. The adjoining rooms were clean and simple, and the beds were spectacularly comfortable. We all collapsed simultaneously at ten til 1. By 1, everyone was out.
Breakfast would have been free this morning, but we slept late. It was worth it. We went across the street to Braum’s for some sausage biscuits and a half gallon of peanut butter pretzel ice cream with chocolate covered nuts and 9 plastic spoons. Who is a cool mom? Yeah, that’s right. Me.
So here we are, still on the road, but generally well rested, well fed, happy and alive.

“peanut butter pretzel ice cream with chocolate covered nuts”
pretzel icecream???
You actually consider this to be cool?
*shudder*
Andrea,
You’ve obviously never tried it.
Let’s just say that there was none left, and the only complaint was about how the van would look afterward.
Oh, and *I* didn’t consider it to be cool. My kids did. Shudder on.
I am glad that you stopped to rest so we can continue to enjoy your posts.
Isn’t finding adjoining hotel rooms a bear? We always have a hard time with it. Glad you were successful.
It sounds like you are having a lovely adventerous time. Hope the weather becomes nice for you – it’s been insanely windy for the past two days here in Michigan.
OH My daughter would LOVE it if I served icecream for breakfast. Not sure about that flavor though.
Oh, I did not think that having icecream for breakfast would be a poor choice…
it was the frozen pretzels which kind of took me…
still shuddering!
I LOVE Braums! We don’t have them in Virginia, but everytime I visit my parents in my hometown in Arkansas, hubby and I make a point to go to Braums at least twice! We like everything….but probably my favorite is the Cappacino Chunky Chocolate Frozen Yogurt….those huge chunks of dark chocolate are the BEST. And you are definitely a cool mom.
