What we’re doing

Eating homemade yogurt with breakfast, incubated outside yesterday in the warm spring sun.

Munching on our first-ever lentil sprouts, tasty after just 36 hours but still growing in our new Easy Sprouter.  (more on that soon!)

Waiting for our rolls to finish cooking in the solar oven – half white flour, half freshly ground whole wheat.  I actually planned ahead and had dough mixed, shaped, raised and in the oven before 10 o’clock!

Finishing up school for some, starting for others.

Getting ready to go to town for 9 – count ’em, nine dentist appointments.  We’d better get brushing.

Will the rolls be done before we have to leave?  Probably not.  Sigh.  I forgot we’d be leaving in just over 2 hours, and it didn’t help that the wind blew off the top of the oven.  Even when I plan ahead, I don’t plan ahead.  Maybe they’ll be done enough to use as brown-n-serve rolls.

  1. We took our rolls out before we left so we could take them to dinner at my sister’s house on our way home that evening. They were very soft, but done.
Overall, though, I’m classifying the solar oven as a failure. Too much waste, too much wind here, etc.

  2. Have you posted any pictures about your solar oven? I would really like to see how you did this… I’ve dreamed of doing one of these for years! One year, I actually got two boxes the right size, saved newspaper, and just needed to look for the glass. Then my super-organized hubby saw unused boxes sitting around and threw them away. 🙂

  3. I guess I shouldn’t complain about 4 eye doc. appointments at one time. Bring a good book.

It is cheering to me (in a morbid way) that someone else’s days have their own agenda too. My best laid plans can go “poof” in a minute.

  4. Soooo… were the buns done or did you have rock hard ones when you came home or did you take them out all gooky?

  5. Oy…that’s alott’a dentist appointments!

Looking forward to seeing your hubby this weekend! We’re hoping to be able to spend a bit of time with him while he’ s out our way!!

Don't just think it: say it!
