Happy birthday, Sarah.

Happy birthday, Sarah.  It’s been 6 years since you were born into glory.

Your birthdays aren’t sad days for me, but they are thoughtful days.  My quiet thoughts have been drifting toward you for the past weeks leading up to today.

You were the only child we named before birth, because you were the only one whose gender we knew ahead of time.  We decided to name you Sarah – princess – because it was a favorite name of all your sisters.  When they played dress-up and pretended to be princesses, one of them was always named Sarah.

I wonder what you would look like if you were here with us today.

I wish I had taken some photos of you when you were born.

I’m glad my mom asked to hold you when I was unsure at first whether I should hold you.

I wish I had let the ultrasound technician try a little longer before I said that was good enough, because the one photo I have of you at 20 weeks gestation really doesn’t show much.

Mostly I just look forward to meeting you again someday.

Happy birthday, sweet princess.

Kim, mother of 10 children with names, and 2 more without.

  1. Lovely post. Thanks for sharing. We have one little unnamed angel waiting for us – an a beautiful 16-month-old gal named Hazel, and a second precious one due in August. God gives and He takes away – and it’s all so precious.

  2. Thank you for sharing, you and your family are such a blessing, the Lord bless you always

  3. Oh Kim. I’m so sorry for your loss!

  4. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this thoughtful time. I can only imagine your pain, but am so thankful that our God is good and that He has brought you through.

Kimberly, mother to 9 children all here with me.

  5. Thinking of you.

  6. We had three babies lost around 12-14 weeks, one set of twins. We know they are waiting for us with our Lord. Our own Sarah was born on June 3 of this year. My heart aches for you.

  7. Blessings on you and your family Kim! This post and the comments have ministered to my heart. As a newlywed anxiously awaiting the time when the Lord will bless us with children, there are many fears and this is one of them. You are such an encouragement to those of us following behind in the journey.

  8. Thanks for sharing about Sarah. We have 3 children waiting for us in Heaven also-1 named and 2 unnamed. Our son, Quinten would be 3 1/2. He was 8 pounds 12 ounces, perfectly beautiful, perfectly formed, and perfectly still. I’m so sorry you have no pictures. So many things happen so fast and so many decisions have to be made so quickly. We do have pictures, and I cherish them. I’d encourage anyone who might face this in the future to take pictures–even if you never look at them, at least you’ll have them. I have a friend who’s son was had been gone several days before he was born, and wasn’t in very good shape. They took pictures of his hands and feet. Also maybe have the funeral home take pictures after the body is prepared and looking a little better. I know that’s not stuff you really want to think about, but if it happens you have so little time to make those decisions, and often no one to talk to that’s been through it before.

Thanks again for sharing Sarah’s life with all of us. Doesn’t knowing you have children waiting for you give you an even deeper longing for Heaven?!

  9. Happy Birthday Sarah. You guys are going through birthdays this summer as fast as we are.

  10. Such a sweet post. Thanks for sharing it with us. Our second son passed away at 18 days. He was born 2 days after Christmas, and died 2 days after my birthday. So I always think about him during that time.

  11. Thank you for sharing. This post really blessed me.
    You have a beautiful family.

  12. Hello Kim-
Thank you for sharing this wonderful post. May the Lord envelope you with love today and always. What a thought that your little one is with the Lord preparing a place for you and your wonderful family to meet her one day.

  13. Oh Kim what a sweet post! I did not realize that our sweet babies birthdays were so close together. We will be celebrating our sweet girl’s heaven going on Tues. To be honest it is good to hear that at 6 years this day is not sad for you…I am not there yet, it will be 3 years for us. Thinking of you all today!

  14. Thank you for sharing this. One of my very best friends lost her first baby at about 2 months gestation this week, and my heart aches for her, especially as I hold my precious almost-4-month-old in my arms. But, we praise the Lord, knowing that her sweet baby is with Him.

  15. God bless you and your family!

  16. My heart and prayers go out to you Kim! May He continue to sustain you and strengthen you!

  17. Hugs to you sweet Kim. My first grandbaby went to be with the Lord this last week. It is amazing that even though you never see them how much you can still love them.

  18. Hi Kim,

Praying for you today! I have three that I lost before birth at around 12 weeks. The joy does return, doesn’t it, but you always wonder….

  19. Anne from Faraway says:

Hi Kim, I also ask myself those questions about my two daughters who are waiting for me with God. Lyvia would have been 13 and Ayla 7. What would be their caracter, what they would love, what they would look like? They were both more than 30 weeks old, so we were able to see them, but not for long enough. And we only have a bad picture of Lyvia. But it is still something. It does not ache anymore but I miss them.
    May God bless you!

  20. Praying for you today Kim! My heart is with you. We have two in Heaven; one would have turned 6 in March and one I am freshly aching for as I would have been 5 months pregnant right now. Thanks for sharing Sarah’s story.

May the Lord richly bless you!

    in Christ,

Don't just think it: say it!
