You know how tired you get in your first trimester?  Does anyone else spend those weeks feeling like their personality dried up and blew away?  I have no imagination, no motivation, no personality.  I pity anybody who invites me to a party.  At least I won’t be throwing up on their floor.  Yes, the beans are still helping.  I spend all my time nauseated, but rarely cross that line to actual vomiting.  I’m thankful but also feeling an amazing tendency to whine about how I feel.  Isn’t human nature an audacious thing?

I’d like to know more about your home schooling day.

  2. maryjo :

i was thinking the exact same thing how do you homeschool 8 or say 6 children?

  3. Amanda :

I gave my sister a couple of not-so-gentle nudges with her last pg. Then I got pg and have had the worst case of pg fatigue I’ve had with any of my previous pg. I think God is showing me that sometimes you just need to shut up and lend a sympathetic ear.

Lets see a bunk bed update! I want to know how it is working out! And, I will remind you….the other side of pregnancy is wonderful! My little man is 3 months old yesterday, and boy….i get mushy feelings just mentioning him!

  5. susan :

  7. Stormie :

Sometimes we all need to whine. I’m beyond the constant nausea, but can’t seem to kick the extreme fatigue (14 weeks). And I whine about it :) And I know I am truly blessed :) :)

  8. Susan :

    1. How about a recipe or two? Then again, this isn’t the stage of pregnancy to write about recipes: food – gotta have it, but boy is it disgusting to think about it (or smell it).

    2. Stories about your growing up years.

    3. Stories about your husband’s growing up years.

    4. Everyone in your family who is capable, to tell a funny story about you.

    5. An interview with a child, or two or three or all, that would include questions like: What is Mom’s favorite color? What did Mom and Dad like about each other before they got married? Do they still like those things about each other? How does Dad like to surprise Mom? What is Dad’s favorite food? How old was Mom when she first ______________? What did Dad want to be when he grew up? etc. You get the idea. Then, you or your husband (whichever person the question applies to) would give the actual answers. I like getting those kinds of answers from younger members of the family. Their answers can be surprising and funny.

  10. Sonya :

Just think, the nausea will be over by the holidays ((fingers crossed)) and then you’ll be ready to eat everything in sight! LOL… I do know exactly what you mean about the “no motivation, no personality”…it seems like when I’m expecting, the ONLY thing I can think about is the baby! My precious Liberty (# 8) is now 10 weeks old, and I’m beginning to wonder where my pregnancy went!
But seriously, in between beans…..and more beans…. I would like to hear some of your homeschooling wisdom. As a mother to 7 daughters and 1 son…(me and you do have alot of common ground :) … I homeschool as well…but I am always ready to hear what other mothers do! Oh, and btw, me and my sister are trying out your “no shampoo”….. day 1 for me has been great!!! I love all your bits of wisdom, with humor added as well!!
    God Bless!

  11. Sonya :

I don’t know what I did, but it is supposed to say….Liberty is our 8th baby!!! I do like the smiley with the shades though….very fitting!!!

  12. I am due June 5. I’ve got the same queasy stomach you do!! Though I haven’t thrown up yet….I know how you feel. Washing dishes–especially old dried up ones and smelly dishwater only makes it worse, too…that is my least favorite thing to do. Mostly, I could sit around and read, sleep, and eat–if someone else could think up what to make and then cook it please?? But hey–I got my own three to look after! (I wish they would tell me, “it’s okay mommy, we don’t need any lunch…” but they never do…

  13. It’s me again. By the way, on your book, Princess Adelina , who is Julie Sutter? I keep getting confused how it’s your book and yet doesn’t have your names on it….Could you give us a puzzle piece?
How you all like having your lives plastered all over the internet?? Questions about every living thing!

  14. Shanna :

Tell us how schooling is different now than when you were being homeschooled. What are you thankful for that you know since you were homeschooled? What did your bring from your homeschool days that you still do with your own children?

    Does that help at all?

  15. Shannon Mallory :

Ooh, yeah, I was just wondering about who Julie Setter is, too. I was just looking through Vision Forum’s new catalog and I thought, “HEY! I thought the book was by the Coghlans!?!”

I also want to know more about the homeschooling!

Blog on!!! And feel better soon : )

  16. Shannon Mallory :

    Oooops… I meant Sutter.

  17. Oh Kim I just love you. You are amazing and such an inspiration. Blog about whatever comes to your heart and mind… I am still out here reading away sister;-) I just had to mention that as a mom of ONLY boys I always felt exactly how you are feeling now… I called it the low grade nauseau…not quite enough to hurl but I constantly felt like it… so who knows what is on the horizon for you? But I am praying blessings on your family!! I still cannot believe that my youngest is now three and half and still not pregnant…crazy;-)

  18. Mirage :

Love Susan’s idea about interviewing the kids! In fact that reminds me of a really funny meme…
    http://absartblog.blogspot.com/2009/08/short-answers-this-is-going-to-be-so.html
It’s called “Short Answers” and every Tuesday she has 5 random questions you’re supposed to interview your kids with and then post their answers. It’s hilarious! Especially the answers from the kids who are about 4-9 years old who have such a fun and naieve outlook on life.
Which brings me to my suggestion. When I don’t know what to blog about, sometimes I just do memes. So you should find a meme for each day of the week that you can do if you don’t know what to post that day! :)
Two I host on my blog are Mommy Moments Mondays and Toddler Tales Tuesdays. For Mommy Moments you post something that has impacted you as a mom that week. It could be a sweet moment with one of the kids or an “aha!” moment where you figured out something profound about motherhood, or a moment where God has taught you something about the spirit of motherhood… For Toddler Tales it is just what it sounds like. Things toddlers (not limited to toddlers though- can be older kids too) say or do that are funny or sweet or make you melt, or things they say or do that show that innocent wisdom that babies have.
There are lots of fun memes out there that will give you ideas for posts when you’re feeling tired and boring. ;)

  19. mamatomyson :

update us on how your chicken experiment is going! or post pics of your cute kids, that will remind you what your doing the personality-less period for :)

  20. Angie :

Have you ever tried Spirilina. I used that my last pregnancy and when I went for an appointment the midwife asked me how I was feeling and when I told her pretty good she said that I was not supossed to be feeling good in my first trimester. You can get it from morethanalive.com or beeyoutiful.com
Hope this helps. Just start out slow and build up.
If you have questions ask Joy at Morethanalive.com

  21. Amber :

I’m curious about the potted plants on your deck. Was it worthwhile? Do you plan on doing it again next year?

And the chickens – how many eggs are you getting a day now?

  22. my nausea is over. I am at 23 weeks along, but I had a pretty bad case of the nausea and tiredness with this pregnancy. I would say just enjoy it…rest, sleep, put your feet up…when will you have the opportunity to do it again. Eat small meals and cuddle with your little ones…this too will pass. :) I had a bad case of lack of creativity too. I closed my shops down and took forever to finish a custom order because of it. I finally finished my custom order last week. :) Take a peek. http://creatingtreasures.blogspot.com/2009/10/wedding-gift-for-father-of-bride-has.html Now I am back to my normal self and looking forward to baby.

  23. Why don’t you re-post your birth stories? Those are some of my favorites.

  24. Amanda :

I feel the same way. Blah. I can barely pull my camera out of the bag nevermind blog.

Have you tried baked potatoes for a change from the beans? Eating one, skins and all, a half hour before going to bed can make your morning better.

  25. Faith :

Heck, go ahead and moan. After all, you’ll be moaning after this baby comes out and ten years from now does, “that-thing-you’ll-never-forgive-them-for”. ;-)

I’d enjoy, as I’m sure others would too, on reading those, “top-10-cutest-things-my-crazy-kids-ever-did-or-said”

  26. LOL…I totally feel you. My husband really picks up the slack for me those first few months.

I’m having a baby month over on my blog…maybe you’d like to participate?

  27. Carey :

Whine on sistah! It’s only temporary and we don’t mind. As a matter of fact, logistics of running a large household while feeling puney would be a very helpful blog post! Even the little things you do that you probably don’t even think about anymore are unknown to those of us just getting started!
I always appreciate posts on logistics……very helpful!

  28. Lacey :

day to day life- home-schooling, managing home, crafts that you or your children make, I always enjoying seeing the running of other mother’s homes and how they manage cleaning, cooking, and schooling :) I know cooking probably isn’t your favorite thing to blog about, but perhaps when the nausea wears off you can share a recipe or two.

  29. I am absolutely good for nothing during the first trimester! lol! I’m impressed that you have kept up your blog as much as you have considering.

Nevertheless, since your blog is my most favorite, I do have some questions/ideas for post.

Perhaps this sounds strange, but I think it would be interesting if you wrote more about why you decided to follow in your mother’s footsteps in terms of being quiverfull and homeschooling.

I think many of us want to have a family legacy like that, in which our children follow in our footsteps. However, I’m not so sure exactly how to pass that on. What did your mom/dad do?

Also, I would love to hear more about the days when all your children were very young? Maybe when you only had about 4 and when everyone was about 5 and under? Obviously, those days are long gone and you’re still sane. Enlighten me:)

  30. Mirage :

Oh yeah! Totally agree with LaSandra above! I’m a mom of only two right now, ages 3 and 1, and I’m so tired and crazy I think I would really lose if if I get preggo again soon… So I’m always interested in how moms who now have lots of kids got along when the first few were just toddlers. I’d like to know it’s just the having only kids under 5 thing and not that I’m a bad mom because I’m a bit overwhelmed…?

  31. laura :

I’d like to hear how you “get things done when you don’t feel good!”, how you manage chores and what responsibilities the kids have daily, and more about your budget/grocery budget.

  32. Jenn :

What are you and your children’s favorite parts of the upcoming holidays? What traditions do you have and what ones do they look forward to the most? How do you handle gift giving and gift giving from relatives?

  33. Caroline :

Do you guys celebrate Halloween and do the kids dress up and go trick or treating?

  34. Tamara :

Ahhhh, the third trimester blues! Yes they suck. You feel like a whale and your conversation is like a bale, of hay that is. I would recommend finding some completely frivolous book to read until you are breastfeeding every 2 hours, when of course you won’t have time to read anymore.

  35. Margaret :

I highly recommend the unisom/b6 combination. Before I lost my baby I was having constant, severe nausea that had me flat out on the couch all day. Taking that combination helped me stop feeling like I was motion-sick all the time. I did still throw up once or twice a day but felt better afterwards.

  36. Mary :

Iron and B12 boost my energy when I feel sluggish. Hope you start to feel better soon. I had to giggle a little when you said you felt like you had no personality. I referred to myself as Mommy Robot when I was pregnant with my youngest.

I would love to hear more about your homeschooling!

  37. LOL- send everyone over to my blog for a visit- I have alot of content and not enough readers!

  38. maryjo :

here is what I would like to know:

How much time per day do you spend schooling your children?
How do you make sure they are up to grade level?
Do you think your children will go to college?
Do they have to take testing through the state to track their progress?
    Do you incorporate feild trips?
Do all of your kids like homeschooling or do they ever wish they went to private or public school?
Will they eventually get a HS diploma or GED?

please tell as much as you want I am curious as to how you “manage” so many differant age levels.

  39. Sheila :

    I’m still waiting for Perry’s “quiverfull” post…

  40. Wendy :

Ha! Kim, one thing you can count on: suggestions and opinions from Homeschoolers (me included!). You don’t have to even ask, most of the time :)
All the other (excellent, I might add, so no need for mine:) suggestions should keep you busy posting into the year 2012, so you should be set!
    Faithfully-yours,
    Wendy

  41. This mom of 10 is feeling the same way today. I made a list of things that are getting on my nerves today and I plan on doing something about only one of these things. Oh, and I went for a walk outside to clear my head. It helps, but I am so dragging my feet today.

Why wasn't my comment published?
