If the water in the toilet is going up instead of down, let go of the handle. NOW.
If the water in the toilet bowl is already overflowing, it’s still a good time to LET GO OF THE HANDLE. NOW.
If you are transfixed with horror at the growing flood surrounding you and your hand just won’t let go, at least call for help. NOW.

Here’s another one. If you’re just stepping out of the shower, flush the toilet and it starts to overflow, don’t throw ALL the available towels down on the floor! You’re gonna need at least one!
Also, teach the kids that the handle thingie under the toilet turns the water off. I thought they knew but the water reached the hallway before I got there to turn it off.

This was the way my dh started the day on Christmas morning. Nothing like some plunger fun to start the Christmas celebration!
