We have a mystery in our house.
On Sunday morning, Perry and I woke up under our silky-smooth chocolate brown top sheet. It matches our silky-smooth chocolate brown fitted sheet and our 2 silky-smooth chocolate brown pillowcases, as one would expect.
This is our only set of sheets in daily use. We do have another set, but I choose to forget about them. They’re old and flowered and scratchy, and when I wash the good sheets I just hang them to dry and put them right back on the bed. No scratchy sheets.
As I said, on Sunday morning Perry and I woke up under our top sheet. We left for church that morning , then went to my visit my parents and siblings and some relatives visiting from out of town. We didn’t get home until 8 or 9 PM.
I didn’t make the bed before church, but I did when we came home that evening. I don’t remember anything out of the ordinary.
And then, when it was bedtime, our top sheet was gone. Just gone. The comforter was neatly on top as it belonged; the fitted sheet was neatly beneath; the pillows were neatly arranged over it all. But there was no chocolate top sheet.
Was it there when I made the bed an hour ago? I can’t swear to it, but think I would have noticed if it was missing.
None of the children knows where it is.
It’s not in the laundry.
It’s not under my bed.
It’s not being used as a tent on the deck.
My house is small. There aren’t many places to hide something that size, and no reasons I can think of for it to be gone in the first place. Am I the victim of a practical joke?

I have offered a $1 reward to the first child who finds it – after she does her chores and reads her Bible. I’ll pay a bonus if they can solve the mystery of how it got there.
I’ll give a virtual high-five-and-hug if you can guess where and when it will turn up.
Still in the washing machine? Blew away off the closeline?

I always offer money when I can’t find something-amazing how it motivates people to really LOOK.
It’s not wadded down at the bottom of the bed, is it?
Did you pull the comforter all the way off the bed? Could it be stuffed down to the foot of the bed, hiding under the comforter?
I once offered a $1 reward for my favorite comb that was lost. I made a little sign and everything. My boys looked and looked… they really wanted that dollar. I was so sad they didn’t find it.
A few months later when I pulled the fridge out to clean behind it… there it was!! The boys insisted I pay myself the reward dollar.
However, I don’t think your sheet is under the fridge. I have absolutely no idea where a top sheet could be hiding in a small house! Hope you find it though… no one should have to sleep on scratchy sheets!

Funny things like this happen in our house all the time LOL! I have no clue where you found it but I can’t wait to read about it!!!
I’m guessing the same place socks go – never to be found again? LOL Either that or Parker’s hiding it.
I with Jenny! Check your gun stash…or maybe they were after your chocolate stash and thought your chocolate colored sheets were the real thing!
It’s still on the bed. Either wadded up at the bottom or somehow under the fitted one.
I know, because I’ve done the same thing. It is the ‘fitted bottom sheet’-you are sleeping on top of the top sheet!
Just goes to show that you know how to make a bed, Mrs. Coughlan!
Between the mattress and the headboard?
We found it and solved the mystery of how it got there. It wasn’t anywhere near my bed. Ironically (or predictably?) the child who found the sheet was the one at fault, though she didn’t know it at the time.
It could be a practical joke…and while there may not be very many places to hide a sheet of that size, imagine, if it were folded just twice, you’d never realized it had been placed under the mattress. Unless you were as sensitive as the princess from The Princess And The Pea!
Or it could be that you made the bed so well it appears to be the bottom sheet.

So a mystery it remains? We’re all curious as to where it was and how it got there… you know, because we all want to be distracted from making our own beds and washing our own sheets and solving our own mysteries.
Have you looked in the DOG ‘house’ ??? ;D I guessed the dog house, for knowing how mischievous… and such a trouble maker “Precious” is…… she might have thought that you had been ignoring her Own comfort during the night and decided to reveal how upset she was, she decided to make YOU uncomfortable at night. *smart dog* (

A phrase we got a couple of times is: ” You should write a book!” — or you could just take Raegan’s line from Bubble Trouble, telling gator to write a book
( remembering that kind of thing is what I get from a little brother who thinks any movie that Gator Moore is in, is the COOLEST movie ever!)
Although…. In your case it is probably going to be a much more interesting book…. should you take up my suggestion:) * hint hint*

Becca found the sheet wadded up in the corner of the kids’ room, on the 3rd level of their bunks, where her bed and Natalie’s meet (they’re arranged in an L shape).
She doesn’t remember, but here’s how we think it got there:
After I made my bed Sunday evening, she crawled under the covers with Rachael and they both dozed off. When I woke them and sent them to their own beds, Becca must have grabbed the sheet in a daze and carried it off – our groggy children often carry their comforters out to the sofa on cold mornings.
Stuff like this happens in our house all the time. Something will just disappear without any warning. Or something will appear and we wonder where in the world it came from. I think these kind of happenings are part and parcel of life in a big family.
My guess is that you tucked it in real good and now it looks like the fitted sheet. It is still on the bed.
If it’s a practical joke, it might be underneath the fitted sheet! I don’t know…can’t wait to find out where it is!
This is too funny. Mystery solved but how amusing. Things like this happen and you just have to get to the bottom of it. Yay Becca!
